Name: Petar Vlad Gitsoaika Name: Alexandra (Allie) Jerome Citizenship: U.S. Class Year: 2003 Major: Self-Developed: Middle Eastern Studies & Spanish E-Mail: shaherazade@gmail.com Live: Costa Rica, Spain, and Egypt, England, currently Carlisle Languages Spoken: Spanish and Elementary Arabic Why Dickinson? Look for unique aspects of the school. For me, it was Dickinson’s strong foreign language program. Later, when I was enrolled there, I found out about the opportunities that are available to develop your own course of study, which I took full advantage of. These are opportunities and characteristics that make a college unique and a wonderful place to live and learn. Something usually “clicks” when you’re reading and looking at a place and you just know that that is where you want to be. The search is daunting, but if you have a vague idea of what you want to study, a liberal arts college is the best way to go—you can change and develop and integrate several fields into your course of study. I was a self-developed major in Middle Eastern Studies and took courses in Anthropology, History, Judaic Studies, Political Science, Arab Studies, Philosophy, Women’s Studies, and Art. I also did several independent studies with my adviser who let me have free reign and allowed me to indulge in my own particular research interests. I would not have had those opportunities at another college or the freedom to move about from department to department unhindered! Those were opportunities that not even graduate students have! Favorite Thing: The best aspect of Dickinson is the number of opportunities that are presented to you to work closely with faculty, developing academic relationships. The intimacy of the college allows you a lot more freedom of movement and development than a larger university does (as I have found out this year!). Dickinson is without a doubt a global microcosm and a very unique educational opportunity. I loved every minute of my four years there. Study Abroad : Granada, Spain, Cairo, Egypt, and England

Name: Can Cakim Citizenship: Turkey Class Year: 2003 Major: International Business and Management E-Mail: studyusa@dickinson.edu Lived/Studied: Turkey, USA, Italy Languages Spoken: Turkish, Italian, & English Study Abroad : Bologna, Italy (junior year) Name: Coryanna Lynam Citizenship: U.S. Class Year: 2003 Major: International Studies and Italian Studies double major E-Mail: lynam@dickinson.edu Lived/Studied: United States & Italy Languages Spoken: English & Italian Advice: - about college search/decision: Most importantly, where you choose to go to college is your decision. I also highly recommend visiting each college before making a decision to get a feel for the campus, talk with professors (especially in the areas your interested in) and students. - about Dickinson: I found Dickinson to be the college most interested in me, very welcoming, and very willing to provide me with whatever information I wanted and answer any questions/concerns I had. Also, in contrast to its location in middle Pennsylvania, Dickinson is a very internationally and community focused college with many opportunities for those who want to study abroad or become more involved with the community. Favorite Thing: The year in Bologna was definitely the best experience though I enjoyed the time spent at Dickinson. Study Abroad : Bologna Italy 2001-2002 Name: Jessica Elizabeth Ellerman Citizenship: U.S. Class Year: 200 Major: Biology, Pre-med E-Mail: Ellerman@dickinson.edu Lived/Studied: Italy, United States Languages Spoken: English, French, Italian Why Dickinson? Four years of cross country and three national championship races, the wonderful biology department, the great food, and the supportive pre-med faculty. Advice: Visit Dickinson to see if it is right for you. It isn’t right for everyone and you owe it to yourself to make the best decision possible. Talk to faculty; write emails to current students to get a feel for the curriculum and for the environment. Decide if a small town environment is what you want.
