For more than half a century, Dickinson College has been actively collecting papers, photographs, and artifacts that reveal the history of the institution and its personalities. The volume of materials held within the Archives and Special Collections Department has continued to grow at an ever more rapid pace.
As the collections have grown, the demand for use of these materials from within the college community, as well as from without, has increased dramatically. In order to help us keep up with the incoming supply of papers and photos, as well as to accommodate the rising demand for their use, we would like to make everyone aware of the many opportunities for volunteer service. Do you like looking through old photographs? Do you enjoy reading letters and diaries that were written well before you were even born? Would you just like to know why a school so far from the sea would have a mermaid perched atop its oldest building? Whatever your interests, you can rest assured that there are tasks to be done that are right up your alley.
Appropriate training will be provided, so inexperience is not a concern. Everyday brings another opportunity for discovery, to learn something about Dickinson that you never knew before. If you are interested in volunteering your time and effort, please contact College Archivist Jim Gerencser by phone (717-245-1399) or via e-mail (firstname.lastname@example.org).
