At Dickinson, civic engagement extends far beyond the local community.
Our students pursue internships in the nonprofit and government sectors in the nearby state capital, Harrisburg; in Washington, D.C.; around the country; and internationally. They participate in more than six service trips each year to communities across the U.S. and around the world.
Our faculty design globally integrated courses and Mosaic programs that combine academic study, community-based research and service learning in communities around the world. Recent examples include the Mexican and Mediterranean Migration and Global Climate Change Mosaics and the current partnership with Akita International University in Japan, which focuses on a comparative, problem- and policy-based learning project in Carlisle and rural northern Japan.
