2003 Distinguished Service Award

Kevin Holleran ’73

In his 30 years of service to the college, Kevin Holleran has long been active in the alumni-admissions program and has served on the Alumni Council and the Board of Advisors. He also co-chaired the class of 1973’s 20th reunion, serves on its 30th reunion committee and worked on the 1986 Philadelphia Regional Campaign Committee. Holleran currently is chairman of the Philadelphia-area Regional Cabinet, a member of the Dickinson Fund Advisory Council and participates in the Dickinson Works alumni-networking program. He has been a Friend of the Library for many years. Holleran participated in the Alumni Travel Program to Bologna, Italy, in 2000 and is set to travel to Toulouse, France later this month on the next Alumni Travel excursion.

The wonderful thing about Dickinson, Holleran says, is not that four years at the college are the happiest in one’s life, but that those years prepare Dickinsonians for the happiest years in life. In that spirit, he has encouraged two of his nieces, Margaret Smith ’05 and Calley Connors ’07, to become Red Devils.

At Dickinson Holleran majored in history and American studies. He also was a member of the varsity swim team and secretary of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He received his law degree from Villanova University in 1976 and shortly thereafter joined Gawthrop Greenwood & Halsted, where he has been a partner in the trusts and estates field for the last 20 years. He is a past president of the Chester County Bar Association and a member of the American Bar Association.

Holleran and his wife Burse share their Downingtown, Pa., home with two beagles, Olive and Fannie. When he’s not volunteering for Dickinson, Holleran leads fund-raising efforts for the Girl Scouts of Freedom Valley and serves as vice chairman of the Chester County Hospital Foundation. He is a board member of the Chester County Council of the Boy Scouts of America, a former board member of the Chester County YMCA and past chairman of the United Way of Chester County. He is a member of Whitford Country Club, St. Agnes Catholic Church and the Union League of Philadelphia. Holleran also exercises his political energies for the Pennsylvania Republican Party. In 1988 he helped organize Sen. John Heinz’s re-election campaign. He has since worked on several local judicial campaigns.
