The Climbing Wall

The Climbing Wall, located in the Kline Center, offers five 25 foot top roping routes and a bouldering wall. The wall is open six days a week to students, faculty, and staff. It is a great way to exercise, meet new people, and train for outdoor climbing which is abundant in the area. All experience levels are welcome and encouraged to climb at the rock wall.

Climbing at the Wall

Student rock wall monitors facilitate open hours. On your first visit to the wall, you will take a 15-30 minute belay course with the rock wall monitors. The course is offered at any time that the wall is open and no prior registration is necessary. During this one on one or small group course, you will learn how to use the equipment safely, to tie the necessary knots, and to belay. This course must be repeated each academic year.

After you have completed the belay course, you are free to top rope or boulder at the wall during open hours. We have all the equipment you need to climb available for you to borrow for free! This includes belay devices, harnesses, and climbing shoes.

Opportunities for Groups

Do you have a group of students, faculty, and/or staff that would benefit from an interactive team building experience? Consider moving a department or club meeting to the rock wall. We offer programs that will facilitate group development in a experiential and fun environment. Please contact ryansea@dickinson.edu if you are interested in this opportunity, and we will connect with you to tailor a program to meet your needs.

Student Employment

Interested in working as a rock wall monitor? We hire student rock wall monitors in April for the fall semester and in November for the spring semester. Please contact ryansea@dickinson.edu for an application.

The main tasks of the rock wall monitor is to maintain a safe environment during rock wall open hours, take care of the equipment, and provide belay certification courses for climbers new to the Dickinson rock wall.
