Core Educational Programs and Training Programs
The Pride @ Dickinson Safe Zone Program seeks to create a safer and more inclusive campus environment for all members of the campus community by reducing heterosexism, homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia. Through the training program and the display of Pride @ Dickinson stickers, the program creates a visible and supportive network of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, and ally members of the campus community who have a basic knowledge about issues of sexual orientation and gender identity and are able to provide support and referrals to members of the campus community. The mission of Queer Peers, the LGBTQ Peer Mentoring Program, is to assist students in developing a positive sexual orientation and gender identity while also successfully transitioning to life at Dickinson College. This process is facilitated through peer-to-peer mentoring in a safe and confidential environment. Through the experience, mentees will have the opportunity to explore their personal areas of interest or passion, become connected to campus resources, and find their own sense of community and identity. Confidentiality is assured and mentees determine how much communication and contact they have with their mentor. All current students at Dickinson College are eligible. Each year, the Office of LGBTQ Services hires five students to serve as Pride Coordinators for the Office and the Dickinson Community. The positions vary, but provide students interested in gender and sexuality work with professional experience and assists the Office with moving new initiatives forward at Dickinson College. The Lavender Reception is an inspiring and affirming ceremony that celebrates the achievements of graduating students and alumni in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, and ally (LGBTQQIA) community from Dickinson College. The Lavender Reception is our chance to celebrate the achievements of the past year. Everyone is invited to join as we honor graduates from the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, and ally community. Our event is followed by a reception. This year’s event will occur on April 11, 2013 at 6:00PM. To learn more, please click here.
Pride @ Dickinson: Connect is our semester newsletter offered to the community highlighting our events, our students, and our work on campus. While providing an overview of LGBTQQIA issues on campus, it also allows us to connect with prospective students, current students, and the broader alumni community.
