jaclyn pryor appearance at Dickinson College, October 15, 2014

On Wednesday October 15, 2014, The Department of Women's and Gender Studies hosted a talk with Dr. Jaclyn Pryor, an interdisciplinary queer studies and performance studies scholar, artist, and educator.  In their talk, "Playing with Time: From Floodlines to Jubilee", Pryor, a Visiting Assistant Professor at Haverford College (English/Peace, Justice, and Human Rights), provided an overview of performance pieces titled Floodlines (2004-2010), Bread (2005), Pink (2006-2009) and Jubilee (2013-present).  Pryor's artistic work uses public spaces to consider "how memories suture themselves to bodies and sites, and how ritual and performance can act as forms of excavation".  The next day, Thursday October 16, 2014, Pryor visited Professor Jennifer Musial's "Gender and Health" class to facilitate a conversation on health narratives.  Here, they connected trans* health to Lyme Disease, as each requires the "patient" to deploy a story that is intelligible to the medical professional to receive appropriate care.

Pryor's visit was sponsored by the Departments of Women's and Gender Studies, American Studies, Judaic Studies, the Asbell Center, the Health Studies Certificate Program, as well as the Women's and Gender Resource Center and LGBT Services.
