The Department of Art & Art History encourages students to submit portfolios for review as part of their application to the college. All portfolio submissions MUST be done through Slideroom* as part of the common application. Please reference the first-year information checklist for more details.

The Department of Art & Art History recommends submitting a portfolio that consists of 10-20 images in order to properly assess the applicant. A portfolio can consist of a focused body of work, though we also like to see a range of media and styles in order to have a full sense of an individuals ability. We will assign each portfolio a 1-3 rating* based on merit and overall quality of your submission. The rating of your portfolio, or whether you submit one at all, has no bearing on your ability to take classes in the art department or becoming a major. A strong portfolio can be a positive supplement to your application. It also gives faculty a sense of interest in the department, and works to open a line of communication.
*rankings will not be made available to applicants, and will only be used as a reference for the admissions process.

Tours
The standard campus tour given by the Admissions Office does not include art & art history facilities located inside Weiss Center for the Arts, The Goodyear Building, and The Goodyear Gallery. We highly recommend you take the opportunity to visit these facilities during your stay. The Weiss Center is open during the day. Please feel free to tour the classrooms/studios on the third floor.
The Goodyear Building includes individual student and faculty studios, sculpture and ceramic facilities, a drawing and painting classroom, digital lab, photo production area, post-baccalaureate assistant studio, project space, and The Goodyear Gallery. Please stop by and walk around if the door is unlocked, however, due to security, the building is usually locked when classes are not in session. Please contact the Michele Karper to set up an appointment in order to assure definite access to the building. Michele will arrange for a personal tour of our facilities.
If you know you are coming to campus for a visit and would like a personal guided tour of the art facilities, please contact the Michele Karper at least two weeks prior to your visit and indicate whether you have an interest in the Studio program, the Art History program or both.
