Workplace Safety

Ergonomics Assessment

Did you know that most repetitive stress injuries to workers, like carpal tunnel syndrome, could have been prevented easily and for little cost by performing a workstation ergonomic assessment? Ergonomics is the science of fitting workplace conditions and job demands to the capabilities of the working population. Effective and successful “fits” assure high productivity, avoidance of illness and injury risks, and increases satisfaction among the workforce.

The college offers free ergonomics assessments as part of our injury and illness prevention program. An online Ergonomic Workstation Self-Assessment is offered through Environmental Health Safety for employees of the college. For more information, or to request or schedule an assessment for yourself or members of your department, please email your request to Kevin Walters: walterke@dickinson.edu

Emergency Preparedness

We have come all too familiar with campus tragedies that have received headlines during the past several years. But it will never happen here at Dickinson College…right? The best action any of us can take to avoid or limit the severity of a unfortunate incident is preparation. This workshop is facilitated by Department of Public Safety officers as they walk the audience through potential scenarios that could occur on campus and how employees can best prepare.

CPR, First Aid & AED Certification

The CPR/First Aid/AED certification course provides training to prepare participants to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children age 12 or younger, and infants. Being certified will provide you with valuable skills that will prepare you for a potentially life-threatening situation. The training for skills is followed by a skills demonstration test and a written exam. The schedule for training certification sessions can be found in Totara using the key word "CPR" in the search box.

Please note: Re-certification requires a current/valid card for the participant.

Basic Self Defense

This crime prevention course provides participants with an introduction to self-defense techniques covering a general awareness and familiarization of crime prevention and self-defense issues. This workshop, available to all employees of the college, includes discussion and hands-on physical training to demonstrate techniques, allowing each person to make an informed decision about their options. Participants should dress for physical activity but are free to opt-out of any activities they do not wish to perform.
