Wellness & Staff Development Program Guidelines

The following guidelines for staff development and wellness programming will help to build a structure specific to the administration of these events. These will be updated on a regular basis as the scope of offerings increase and this component of the department of Human Resource Services evolves.

1.  All employees interested in attending a course or activity being offered should register through Human Resource Services using the Totara online registration system, emailing devwell@dickinson.edu or calling ext. 1503.

2.  Employees who must cancel their registration should do so at least 48 hours prior to the start of the event.

3.  Employees must make every effort to attend the course or activity in its entirety in order to gain the most from the session and avoid any disruption to the program. If this is not possible, it is recommended that the individual registers once the course is offered in the future.

4.  Although most courses are strictly voluntary, the Protecting Our Community (non-discriminatory/preventing workplace harassment) training course remains mandatory and must be taken by every Dickinson College employee.

5.  Supervisors are strongly encouraged to recommend courses to their employees that will assist in their professional development.

6.  The College recognizes that professional development and wellness programming may at times impact normal operations. Efforts should be made, however, to accommodate employees wishing to take advantage of professional development opportunities. To help avoid any operational conflicts, supervisors and employees are encouraged to work together in scheduling professional development and wellness programming. This includes providing the supervisor with ample lead time when making a request to attend any session being offered.

7.  Supervisors should provide every opportunity for their employees who attend training sessions to use their new applicable skills within their work environment.

8.  Every employee who attends a training course or wellness activity should complete an evaluation form that will help us to continuously improve the programming offered at the college.

9.  Effective July 1, 2008, successful completion of a multiple-session wellness exercise program will be defined as attendance at 75% or more of the total sessions offered for the program.

10. Effective July 1, 2018: Fitness Reimbursements Update - Dickinson College no longer participates in Aetna’s GlobalFit program.  Some fitness reimbursements, such as gym memberships, will continue through payroll for employees. Additional details on all eligible expenses, including directions on how to submit your receipts can be found on the Employee Incentives webpage.
