Employment on the College Farm

Student Farmers carry compost
The Dickinson College Farm employs 15-18 students during the academic year (part time) and 6 students during the summer (full time). During the school year, the Farm employs two students to coordinate the Farm, Cook, Eat after-school education program and the Sustainable Earth Education (SEED) experiential education program.

The Farm also offers five post-graduate positions including four Apprentice positions and one Education and Outreach Coordinator position.

Student Farmers

Dickinson students can apply to work at the farm during the academic year and over the summer. Student farmers are encouraged to follow their interests and manifest their ideas, whether they are related directly to agriculture, food, or even biology, art, business or physics. The best way to make your student farmer application stand out is to spend some time volunteering on the Farm!

Student farmers employed at the College Farm during the academic year are required to work a minimum of 6 hours per week from Monday through Saturday at a competitive pay rate. The work is fun, outdoors and physically engaging; from herding sheep and planting seedlings to working on construction projects and harvesting crops. The College Farm seeks good-natured students who are ready for hard work, interested in gaining hands-on experience and willing to try to new things!

Post-Graduate Positions

The Apprenticeship Program offers four recent graduates full-time employment on the College Farm with the aim of training students for leadership positions in any field. Apprentices live and work on the farm to learn leadership, management, and teamwork skills through hands-on work in sustainable farming. One Apprentice each year is selected for the Second-Year Apprenticeship and returns for a full year of work on the Farm in a leaership role.

The Education and Outreach Coordinator position offers one recent graduate the chance to build skills in educational programming, project management, and communications. The Education and Outreach Coordinator develops on-farm and on-campus to connect the College Farm to the Dickinson Community and oversees the Farm's education programs.
