Faculty & Staff Opportunities

Faculty & Staff Development in Sustainability

Faculty at Farm

The Center for Sustainability Education (CSE) works to connect Dickinson faculty and staff with professional development, curriculum development & student faculty research opportunities in sustainability. Providing workshops, study groups, guest speakers & public lectures, curriculum consulting for individuals and/or academic departments or offices helps spread our initiative across the campus and curriculum. Custom training workshops have been developed and implemented for a wide range of audiences such as:

  • Individual academic departments
  • Housekeeping staff
  • New faculty members
  • First-year student advisors
  • Sustainability learning communities & clusters
  • Admissions officers
  • Development officers

CSE provides Sustainability Education Funding for projects and research that advances sustainability-related scholarship and creativity. These incentives facilitate a better understanding of how to meet the critical needs for present and future generations while improving and sustaining the environmental, social and economic systems on which they depend. Faculty from any discipline, administrators and staff are eligible for funding.

Our Valley & Ridge Faculty Study Group provides training, consulting, and a forum for faculty to work on these issues in an interdisciplinary workshop setting. Students may not apply directly to CSE for funding; application for student/faculty projects, research assistantships, and student travel, must be made by faculty or teaching staff, a staff member, or administrator.

Professional development in sustainability is also offered to new faculty, new employees of the college, housekeeping staff, College admissions, student orientation staff, residential education staff, event advisory board, and other clubs and organizations looking to make their impact on the campus more sustainable.

Faculty and staff are also invited to become Dickinson Eco-Reps or take the Green Devil Certification. Both programs rely on a combination of education and action to produce positive change.
