Amy HallThanks for your interest in Dickinson! As an alumna and the regional admissions counselor for Virginia, Washington, D.C., North Carolina, South Carolina, and western Tennessee, I look forward to getting to know you.

Although I hail from the Los Angeles area, I always knew that I wanted to attend a small and academically rigorous liberal-arts college on the East Coast. In high school, I had developed a passion for medieval studies and wanted to pursue that in college and, possibly, beyond.

After touring over a dozen college campuses, I applied Early Decision to Dickinson. I just felt that "fit." It had everything I was looking for–amazing faculty, incredible study abroad opportunities and dozens of majors. The choice was easy and I have never regretted it.

While at Dickinson, I had the chance to work personally with a number of distinguished professors in the disciplines that make up medieval studies. I also spent a year at the University of East Anglia in an area that was a center of medieval English life, both attending classes and doing original research, which included substantial fieldwork, on the role and status of women during that period. After finishing at Dickinson, I went to graduate school at Fordham University and the skills and knowledge that I gained at Dickinson served me well in a very rigorous grad-school program.

My experience really epitomizes the Dickinson goal of providing a "useful" education. After I completed my graduate degree, I decided to re-enter the non-academic world, first working in tourism and development in New York City and now "home" again in the admissions office at Dickinson. Although my day-to-day life does not involve medieval history, the skills and discipline I gained at Dickinson have served me well in the larger business world. I am not unique–my classmates have become successful academics, physicians, attorneys, teachers and in a wide variety of other professionals.

I am glad that you have made it far enough into the Dickinson admissions website to look at the people who will be responsible for helping you through the admissions process. All of us here in admissions are committed to sharing what makes Dickinson so special and to guiding you through the admissions process.
