The following policies and procedures for staff development and wellness programming will help to build a structure specific to the administration of these events.  These policies and procedures will be updated on a regular basis as the scope of offerings increase and this component of the HR Services division evolves.

  1. All employees interested in attending a course or activity being offered should register through HR Services.
  1. Employees that must cancel their registration should do so at least 48 hours prior to the start of the event.
  1. Employees must make every effort to attend the course or activity in its entirety in order to gain the most from the session and avoid any disruption to the program.  If this is not possible, it is recommended that the individual registers once the course is offered in the future.
  1. Although most courses are strictly voluntary, the Fostering a Non-Discriminatory Work Environment course remains mandatory and must be taken by every Dickinson College employee.

  1. Supervisors are strongly encouraged to recommend courses to their employees that will assist in their professional development.
  1. The College recognizes that professional development and wellness programming may at times impact normal operations.  Efforts should be made, however, to accommodate employees wishing to take advantage of professional development opportunities.  To help avoid any operational conflicts, supervisors and employees are encouraged to work together in scheduling professional development and wellness programming.  This includes providing the supervisor with ample lead time when making a request to attend any session being offered.
  1. Supervisors should provide every opportunity for their employees who attend training sessions to use their new applicable skills within their work environment.
  1. Every employee who attends a training course or wellness activity should complete an evaluation form that will help us to continuously improve the programming offered at the College.
  1. Full reimbursement of Wellness program registration fees is be available to full-time employees upon successful completion of the program sessions. Part-time employees' registration fees will be reimbursed at the rate of 50% of the total fee amount paid. Successful completion of a program is defined as attendance at 50% or more of the total sessions offered for the program. Effective July 1, 2008, successful completion of a program will be defined as attendance at 75% or more of the total sessions offered for the program.
