Dickinson Club

The Dickinson Club provides an opportunity for current and retired employees of Dickinson College to gather, mingle, and commune in a relaxed social environment most Fridays from 5 - 7 pm at the Hartman House. The Club also welcomes current and retired faculty of Penn State Dickinson Law and the US Army War College.

Care to become (or renew as) a member for the remainder of the semester? You can! Scroll down to the ► to see how...

A HUGE THANK YOU to Dickinson’s Unnamed Faculty Band who (quite literally) rocked the house last Friday! What a fun way to dance in the weekend. Nadia Alahmed, Erik Love, Eren Bilen, Shawn Bender, Todd Arsenault, and Ed Webb: we can't wait until the next time that you come!  Thanks also to Jay and Karen Weikel, Kevin and Phyllis Cogan, and Peter Schadler for the delicious spread.

UPCOMING:

4/19: This Friday will feature an array of great food, refreshments, and a grand family-friendly gathering, hosted by the Departments of Tome (which includes Math, Physics, Computer Science, and Data Analytics). Can't wait!

4/26: No Club (Many Dickinsonians will be attending our "Pints with Profs" event)

5/3: Pizza by the Farm! (This is the last day of classes at Dickinson) – RSVPs appreciated

5/10: Fiesta with Mark Aldrich's world-famous Paella!

5/16: Champagne Toast! (This occurs on a Thursday around noon, following the last faculty meeting at Dickinson. It is an end-of the-year celebration for all Dickinson employees, but is also open to all dues-paying Club members.)

More About the Weekly Club Get-Togethers...

When: Most Fridays from 5 - 7 pm (or longer, if we're having too much fun to leave)

What?  Friendly socializing with light fare snacks and a variety of beverage options

Where? The Hartman House, at 243 W. Louther Street, is located next to the Clarke Forum (set back and accessible by a front gate) and across the street from Old West and Stern.

Who? You (we hope!), along with whomever you'd like to bring with you, as well as current and maybe former colleagues, new acquaintances, and our honored guests.

RSVPs are not required, but very helpful in being able to anticipate numbers and dietary restrictions

► How can you become a member (which gets you on the email notification list and discounts to special events)?

We welcome attendees who would like to come a few times first to see if you'd like to join as a member -- which is quite the bargain! Our suggested donation is $25 for the first year (which gets you free food and drinks at every Friday Club get-together), and $50 thereafter.

Currently $25 for for renewing members!

Payment options are:

  • Send $ via Venmo to @TheDickinsonClub
(You'll see Scott Farrington's name, since he set it up. The optional 4 digits are 8787.) OR
  • Write a check made out to "Dickinson Club" and drop it in the cash box in the Hartman House,

Either way, be sure to complete an info card with your payment so we have your name associated with your payment and your email.

We are also piloting a "pay as you may" plan for those concerned about cost of the membership fee. Just let our President, Marni Jones or Treasurer, Chauncey Maher know if this is the case for you. You're also welcome to make one-time contributions when you come.

PLEASE DON'T THINK YOU NEED TO STAY AWAY BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT "PAID UP!"

You can also let us know if you'd like to be made aware of future get-togethers, RSVP to a future happy hour social, or convey your interest in learning more by completing this Email List/Sign Up/RSVP & Whatnot form.

SPECIAL THANKS

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Pierce Bounds, who served on the Dickinson Club board for over 10 years as the "Provisions Procurement Master and Retiree Liaison."  We are indebted to Pierce for his longtime service to our community, including the decades that he served as Dickinson College's Photographer.

We are also very grateful to Peter Schadler for all of his efforts in procuring groceries for the Club this past year for nearly every gathering we had. We couldn't have pulled things off without him!

WANTED: (If you're a Dickinson employee): YOU! and Your Department to be our HONORED GUESTS

We hope that every department will take a turn, but if you'd like to secure a date that's good for you before it gets snatched up, please do! You can either sign up on this Dickinson Club Sign-Up or just email Marni Jones to indicate the date(s) that interest you.

We're now offering our match-making services so that various offices and departments can have the opportunity to come together and get to know one another. Let us know who you'd like to be matched up with (or if you'd like for us to choose), and we'll work on making it happen!

Honored guests are welcome to provide food (reimbursable by the Club for up to $150), but otherwise, there are no expectations for you other than to show up and encourage others to come as well. : )
