The experiences of traveling so many places and encountering so many new things will certainly stick with me long after I leave Dickinson.”

With increased globalization and environmental degradation, a global perspective and ecological awareness are qualities that are highly sought after and Dickinson truly promotes the development of these skills.”

What are some of the defining moments of Delphine’s Dickinson experience? “Choosing to switch into Italian 101 my first year was the most rewarding decision I made at Dickinson,” she says. “Not only did it fulfill a lifelong dream of learning the language, but it helped me find a second family on campus, uncover an essential part of my identity and open doors to a multitude of opportunities both academic and professional. My time abroad in Bologna, Italy, was filled with inspiration, joy, growth and wonder that instilled me with a global perspective and a sense of purpose necessary to confront my future. As a part of my Italian Honors Thesis, I received a grant to return to Bologna in January 2017 to research four urban garden initiatives to unearth their ability to improve abandoned urban zones, foster new community relations, educate residents about sustainability and guarantee food security. One seemingly minor decision during my first week of classes evolved into discovering my passion, forming lifelong friendships, and finding a career path.”

There, I met a team leader in sales and analytics who had participated in the same study abroad program when he was in college. Monica has volunteered for the Peace Corps as a Community Health Promoter in Peru. I will also always have an image in my head of sitting outside in the red chairs with my friends when the weather is nice, which I think all Dickinsonians will be able to relate to.”
