A reading by accomplished poet and literary scholar, Julia Bloch.
Julia received her MFA in creative writing at Mills College and her Phd in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Her work explores various facets of twentieth-century poetics, including the North American long poem, formal hybridity, subjectivity, gender and sexuality, and genre theory. She is the author of Letters to Kelly Clarkson, a finalist for the Lambda Literary Award, Valley Fever, and the Little Red Leaves Chapbook Hollywood Forever. Her poetry, reviews, and essays have appeared in Aufgabe, The Volta, Journal of Modern Literature, Women’s Studies Quarterly, and elsewhere; and she is co-editor of the international poetics journal Jacket2. From 2011-2013 she served as Assistant Professor of Literature at the Bard College MAT Program in Delano, California. She now directs the Creative Writing Program at the University of Pennsylvania, where she also teaches literature and creative writing.
