Springfest

May 2007

While the spring semester is winding down, there is still a lot happening on campus. Many people took a break on the last Saturday of April for Springfest (right), an annual event that turns Morgan Field into a giant playground.

Besides fun and games, April featured cultural events, honor-society inductions and a vigil to honor the victims of the Virginia Tech shootings.

Like people all around the world, Dickinsonians were shaken by the news of the April 16 shootings at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. On Tuesday afternoon, members of the campus community gathered for a moment of silence and in the evening a candlelight vigil took place in front of Old West. Admitted students and their families gathered outside the HUB during an open house in April. Applications and average SAT scores are up this year, while the acceptance rate and non-need spending is down. Read more about Dickinson's admissions success.

AROUND THE CAMPUS

A series of themed dinners gave students a break from the dining hall with an opportunity to sample foods from Asia, India, Africa, France and Spain as well as locally grown fare.

Solar-powered smoothies and a seven-person bicycle were featured during the environmental celebration Earthfest.

Collegium The Dickinson Collegium tuned up for its Italian tour by performing in front of a capacity crowd in Memorial Hall. The 11-day tour will include performances in Bologna and Florence.
