Patient's Wishes Ronald Mack's wife claimed that he would not want to be maintained on life support in his condition, but evidence was conflicting and Mack's parents opposed the wife's attempt to have tube feeding removed.
Court's Decision

Although the court adopted the more lenient "substituted judgment" standard (as opposed to the more stringent "clear and convincing evidence" standard), it found the evidence of Mack's preferences thin and contradictory, and therefore rejected the wife's petition.
