Dickinson works with a number of centers and organizations on campus, in Carlisle and in the surrounding area that provide the campus community with a wealth of resources through valuable partnerships and opportunities.
On-Campus Opportunities
The Clarke Forum for Contemporary Issues — The Clarke Forum connects the students and faculty of Dickinson College and members of the broader community with scholars, practicing professionals and activists through lectures, seminars and conferences.
Community Studies Center — The goal of the CSC is to coordinate, support, promote and highlight community-based fieldwork among faculty and students in collaboration with communities both close to home and across continents.
Center for Sustainability Education — Established in 2008 with a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and matching funds from the college, the center is focused on a curricular initiative to make study of the environment a defining characteristic of a Dickinson education.
Humanities Collective — The Humanities Collective is composed of faculty from a variety of disciplines across the college with the goal strengthening research and teaching in the humanities and supporting interdisciplinary collaboration among humanities faculty and faculty in other disciplines.
The Trout Gallery — The Trout Gallery is both an educational branch of Dickinson College and a fine-arts museum for the Carlisle / Harrisburg area. The gallery, along with housing Dickinson’s permanent collections of art — which range in time from classical Greece to the 20th century — maintains a varied exhibition schedule of historical, contemporary and multicultural materials and offers students hands-on curatorial experience.
House Divided Project —Dickinson students and staff are creating a wide variety of resources to honor the Civil War's 150th anniversary (2011 to 2015) and to help America's classrooms learn more about this pivotal conflict.
Off-Campus Opportunities
Central Pennsylvania Consortium — A partnership of Dickinson, Franklin & Marshall and Gettysburg colleges that provides opportunities for interaction and mutual support for students, faculty and administrators.
Forum on Education Abroad — Housed on the Dickinson campus, the Forum on Education Abroad is the only organization whose exclusive purpose it is to serve the field of education abroad.
Mid-Atlantic Region Association for Asian Studies — The MAR/AAS is a nonpolitical, nonprofit scholarly organization dedicated to improving understanding between Asia and America.
Northeast Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages — NECTFL aspires to serve the diverse community of language teachers and professionals through leadership, outreach activities and its annual conference.
Oral History Association — The OHA is an international organization of historians, librarians and archivists, students, journalists, teachers and academic scholars from many fields that seeks to bring together individuals interested in oral history as a way of collecting and interpreting human memories to foster knowledge and human dignity.
