Her research includes 20th century U.S. culture, mass media, feminist theory, and U.S. women's history. Her first book was on the history of Ms. magazine during the second wave of feminism. She is currently working on a book on the history of U.S. cultural ideas about obesity and fat.

Her current research centers on 20th century German novels, on feminist literature,and on the intertextuality between ancient myths and modern literature . Her teaching interests focus on 18th to 20th century German literature, German culture, and women's studies issues.
