| Scogin Named 2005-06 McAndrews Award
Winner (Carlisle, PA)- Dickinson College graduate Annie Scogin (Groton, NY/Groton Central) was named the 2005-06 female McAndrews Award winner, announced at homecoming last month. The McAndrews Award is the most prestigious honor presented to a Dickinson College athlete. In addition to being an outstanding student-athletes, the recipients possess strong leadership qualities, demonstrate good sportsmanship and serve as positive role models for future athletes. This year, Dickinson honored three remarkable student-athletes for their contributions during the 2005-06 academic year. There were many qualified candidates for both the men and the women. The vote on the men’s side led to co-winners. All-American lacrosse player Brian Read ’06 (Timonium, MD/Boys’ Latin) and Ryan Stearrett ’07 (Wilmington, DE/St. Elizabeth), a standout in both football and baseball, were presented with the award on Homecoming weekend. Annie Scogin was not always at the front of the pack. However, her motivation and drive not only carried her to the finish line, but also pushed her teammates to compete at a higher level. She played an integral role to the success of all of her teams throughout her career. As a senior she was voted team captain for cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field. It was a role she took very seriously. She led the cross country team to their sixth consecutive Centennial Conference Championship, the Mideast Regional Championship and a sixth-place finish at the NCAA National Championships. Individually, Scogin ran one of her best races at the Mideast Championships, earning All-Region honors, placing sixth overall. Scogin led the Red Devils to a third place finish at the 2006 Centennial Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships. She was named the Outstanding Female Track Performer at the meet, winning the 3000 and 5000 meters, and placing second in the mile. She broke former teammate Callie Bradley’s ’04 Meet record in the 3000 with a time of 10:17.55.Outdoors, Scogin won the 5000 and 10,000 meter races at the Conference Championships, leading the Devils to third place in the team standings. Scogin was named the team MVP for both indoor and outdoor track & field. She was a member of the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll and part of four cross country teams to earn All-Academic honors by the Cross Country Coaches Association of America. Bradley Second, Devils Sixth at NCAA National Championships (Wilmington, OH)- Dickinson College junior Caitlin Bradley (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) finished second overall with a time of 22:51 at the 2006 NCAA National Cross Country Championships on Saturday to lead the Red Devil women to a sixth place finish in the team standings. Bradley's finish is the highest ever by a Dickinson runner and the team matched the school's best finish, including 2005. She earns her second straight All-America honor and was named the Mideast Region Runner of the Year this season. Darcy McDonald (Lititz, PA/Warwick) (24:25)and Kirsten Lind (Tacoma, WA/Annie Wright) (24:26) crossed the line 63rd and 64th, respectively, while sophomore Becca Trosch (Towson, MD/Loch Raven) (24:30) was 69th. Junior Laura Straw (Fairport, NY/Fairport) (24:50) was the Devils number five runner, crossing 95th overall. First-years Kristina Pfeifer (Merrick, CT/Staples) (25:07)and Mary Hamilton (Pittsburgh, PA/Oakland Academy) (25:46) placed 119th and 184th, respectively. Senior Matt Liebal (Oakdale, CT/Montville) finished 41st overall with a time of 27:52 in the men's race. Bradley, Nichter Named Mideast Region Runner & Coach of the
Year (Carlisle, PA)- Dickinson College junior Caitlin Bradley (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) was named the 2006 NCAA Mideast Region Female Cross Country Runner of the Year. Bradley won the individual title and led the Red Devils to their second straight Mideast Championship. Bradley had another outstanding season, capturing six individual races, including the Centennial Conference Championship. She claimed the fourth consecutive individual conference title for the Devils and the fourth Regional title in the past five years. Head coach Don Nichter was also named the Mideast Region Women's Coach of the Year. The award marks the sixth for Nichter since the 1999 season. Nichter's efforts have led the Devil women to nine Centennial Conference titles, five Mideast Regional titles, 13 consecutive Little Three titles over Gettysburg and Franklin & Marshall, and eight NCAA National Championship appearances. Nichter leads the Red Devils into the 2006 National Championships ranked ninth in the latest national poll. The Red Devils have finished in the top 10 at nationals three times, and matched their best-ever finish in 2006, placing sixth. The Red Devil women, along with men's qualifier, Matt Liebal (Oakdale, CT/Montville), head to Wilmington, Ohio for Nationals on Saturday. The men's race begins at 11:00 am, followed by the women at 12:00 noon. Red Devil Women Capture Second Straight NCAA Mideast Region Title (Waynesburg, PA)- The Dickinson College women's cross country team captured the 2006 NCAA Mideast Regional title on Saturday. Junior Caitlin Bradley (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) won the individual title with a time of 22:40, 44 seconds ahead of the field. The Red Devils placed four runners in the top 10 as sophomore Becca Trosch (Towson, MD/Loch Raven) placed eighth with a time of 23:57, senior Kirsten Lind (Tacoma, WA/Annie Wright) crossed the line ninth at 24:00 and Darcy McDonald (Lititz, PA/Warwick) was 10th in a time of 24:05. The Devils' top seven all finished in the top 30 to earn All-Region honors, Junior Laura Straw (Fairport, NY/Fairport) finished 21st (24:28) and first-years Kristina Pfeiffer (Merrick, NY/Holy Trinity) and Mary Hamilton (Pittsburgh, PA/Oakland Catholic) placed 24th and 27th, respectively with times of 24:36 and 24:41. Pfeiffer and Hamilton were also named First-Team Freshman All-Region. The Red Devils travel to the NCAA Division III National Championships next weekend. Bradley, Devils Win Centennial Conference Titles October 28, 2006 (Carlisle, PA) - The Dickinson College women's cross country team captured the 2006 Centennial Conference Cross Country title as junior Caitlin Bradley (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) won the women's individual title, crossing the line ahead of the pack with at time of 22:16. The Red Devil women won their seventh straight CC title, their ninth overall, finishing 36 points ahead of second place Haverford. The Red Devils had four runners earn First-team All-Conference honors as sophomore Darcy McDonald (Lititz, PA/Warwick) was second (22:54) and former field hockey player turned cross country runner, Becca Trosch (Towson, MD/Loch Raven) placed fourth (23:07). Senior Kirsten Lind (Tacoma, WA/Annie Wright) earned First-team honors with a seventh place finish, clocking a time of 23:38. Junior Laura Straw (Fairport, NY/Fairport) ran to Second-team All-CC honors, finishing 11th. First-years Mary Hamilton (Pittsburgh, PA/Oakland Academy) was 16th, followed by classmate Kristina Pfeiffer (Merrick, CT/Staples) in 17th. The Dickinson women also won the junior varsity race as first-years Marci Wills (Hummelstown, PA/Hershey) and Anna Lovett (Ewing, NJ/Ewing) finished first and second, respectively. Blue Jay Invite Team Title (Elizabethtown, PA) - The Dickinson College women's cross country team captured the team title at the Elizabethtown Invitational on Saturday. The Red Devils claimed the top three spots and had seven runners finish in the top 20. Caitlin Bradley (Fairfield, MA/Fairfield Warde) won the individual title with a time of 14:36, followed by Darcy McDonald (Lititz, PA/Warwick) with a time of 14:56 and Becca Trosch (Towson, MD/Loch Raven) at 15:05. Laura Straw (Fairport, NY/Fairport) crossed the line eighth (15:18), Kirsten Lind (Tacoma, WA/Annie Wright) placed 12th (15:28), Kristina Pfeiffer (Merrick, CT/Staples) was 14th (15:40) and Mary Hamilton (Pittsburgh, PA/Oakland Catholic) 18th (15:54). October 7, 2006 (Carlisle, PA) - The Dickinson College women's cross country team captured its sixth consecutive Long/Short Course Invitational team title on Saturday. The Red Devil women captured team titles in both the 4k and 6k races, edging Swarthmore 12-13 in the 4k and holding off Haverford 14-17 in the 6k event. Junior Caitlin Bradley (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) was the individual winner in the women's 4k with a time of 14:14. Classmate Laura Straw (Fairport, NY/Fairport) was third (15:03), first-year Kristina Pfeifer (Merrick, CT/Staples) crossed eighth (15:38) and first-year Mary Hamilton (Pittsburgh, PA/Oakland Catholic) was 13th to lead Dickinson. In the 6k race sophomore Darcy McDonald (Lititz, PA/Warwick) crossed the line first with a winning time of 22:29 followed by classmate Becca Trosch (Towson, MD/Loch Raven) in second with a time of 22:52. Senior Kirsten Lind (Tacoma, WA/Annie Wright) placed 12th overall (23:45) while Layla Naficy (Westport, CT/Staples) was 20th (24:03) to lead the Devils. Invitational (Bethlehem, PA) - The 15th-ranked Dickinson
College women's cross coutry team placed 16th overall in the Invitational
race of the Paul Short Invite at Lehigh University. Only ranked Division
III teams are allowed to compete in the Invitational race, comprised
of mainly Division I programs. Junior Caitlyn Bradley (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) set the pace for the Red Devils, crossing the line 33rd with a time of 21:37. Sophomore Darcy McDonald (Lititz, PA/Warwick) was 51st with a time of 21:59 and Laura Straw (Fairport, NY/Fairport) was in the top 100, placing 99th in 22:54. First-years Mary Hamilton (Pittsburgh, PA/Oakland Catholic) and Kristina Pfeifer (Merrick, NY/Holy Trinity) crossed 128 and 136, respectivley. Junior Layla Naficy (Westport, CT/Staples) placed 179 and first-year was 191st. September 26, 2006 (Carlisle, PA) - The Dickinson College women's cross country team is ranked 15th-nationally in the first Cross Country Coaches Association Division III poll. The Red Devils are off to a strong start, winning their 13th consecutive Little Three Championship and capturing the team title at the Waynesburg Invitational. The Red Devils return to action on Friday, competing at the Paul Short Invitational, hosted by Lehigh University. Bradley, Red Devil Women Claim Titles at Waynesburg (Waynesburg, PA)- The Dickinson College women's cross country team captured the team title at the Waynesburg Invitational on Saturday. Caitlin Bradley (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) was the individual champion with a time of 22:32, followed by Darcy McDonald (Lititz, PA/Warwick) in second with a time of 22:46. Dickinson placed five runners in the top 20. Laura Straw (Fairport, NY/Fairport) was sixth while Kristina Pfeifer (Merrick, CT/Staples) and Kirsten Lind (Tacoma, WA/Annie Wright) were 16th and 19th, respectively. Three Title (Gettysburg, PA)- The Dickinson College women's cross country team captured its 13th consecutive Little Three Championship. The Red Devil women ran past Franklin & Marshall 17-45 and Gettysburg 21-38. The Red Devils had three runners cross the line first, led by junior Caitlin Bradley (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) with a time of 18:42. Sophomore Darcy McDonald (Lititz, PA/Warwick) was second in 18:48 and junior Laura Straw (Fairport, NY/Fairport) placed third at 19:20. Three first-year runners placed in the top 12 for Dickinson as Mary Hamilton (Pittsburgh, PA/Oakland Catholic) ran a great race to finish eighth with a time of 20:02, followed by Kristina Pfeifer (Merrick, NY/Holy Trinity) in ninth (20:13) and Marci Wills (Hummelstown, PA/Hershey) in 12th at 20:30. Junior Layla Naficy (Westport, CT/Staples) placed 10th with a time of 20:21. Bradley becomes the ninth straight individual winner for Dickinson, dating back to 1998. Rachel Leverenz won back-to-back titles in 1998 and 1999; Alex Forte was a three-time winner in 2000, 2001, and 2002; Callie Bradley won in 2003 and Emily Hulme won back-to-back titles in 2004 and 2005. The Red Devils return to action on Saturday, competing at the Waynesburg Invitational. Red Devil Women Finish Fourth at LVC Invitational (Ft. Indiantown Gap, PA)- The Dickinson College women's Varsity B cross country team finished fourth at the Lebanon Valley College Invitational on Saturday. Messiah College took the top three individual spots to claim the team title. First-year Emily Lawrence (Boulder, CO/Boulder) and sophomore Alisha Kuzma (Richboro, PA/Council Rock) placed in the top 20. Lawrence who finished 7th overall ran a time of 21:00, while Kuzma crossed the line at 21:39 and grabbed 20th. Sophomore Teresa Matthews (Old Chatham, NY/Chatham) and first-year Sarah Randall (Monkton, MD/Hereford) also had strong races with Matthews coming across 30th and Randall taking 31st. The Red Devil women return to action on Wednesday at Gettysburg for the Little Three Championship. Ded Devil Women Split Season Opener (Grantham, PA) - The Dickinson College women's cross county team split its season opener, edging Elizabethtown 27-28 while falling to Messiah 27-29. Featuring the top two teams from the 2005 MAC Championships and the Centennial Conference Champion Red Devils, the race proved to be a dogfight from the start with the teams all finishing within two points. Messiah claimed the Capital Area Classic title with a 28-29 win over Elizabethtown. The Red Devils, running without 2005 All-American Caitlin Bradley (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde), received some strong individual performances. Sophomore Darcy McDonald (Lititz, PA/Warwick) captured the individual title, crossing the line in a time of 19:41. Laura Straw (Fairport, NY/Fairport) finished third with a time of 20:02 while Layla Naficy (Westport, CT/Staples) also placed in the top 10, crossing ninth with a time of 20:40. First-year Kristina Pfeifer (Merrick, NY/Holy Trinity) clocked a time of 20:55 to place 12th, followed by senior JoAnna Sullivan (Arlington, MA/Arlington) in 16th with a time of 21:14. Classic The Dickinson College women's cross county team begins the 2006 campaign tonight at the Capital Area Classic, competing against Elizabethtown and host Messiah College. The Red Devils are coming off another extraordinary season, matching the school's best finish at the Division III National Championships, placing sixth overall. Veteran head coach Don Nichter earned his fifth Mideast Region Coach of the Year honor in 2005, his fourth in the past five seasons. The Red Devils captured their sixth consecutive Centennial Conference title and their third Mideast Regional title in the last four years. In addition the lady harriers claimed a 12th straight Little Three Title and a fifth straight home invitational title. Coach Nichter lost some very talented runners to graduation and will look to some younger runners to join a strong corps of returners for the 2006 season. Junior Caitlin Bradley (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield Warde) highlights the returning cast, coming off an All-America performance in 2005. She was the Devils' top finisher at the National Championships, crossing the line 31st with a time of 22:57. Sophomore Darcy McDonald (Lititz, PA/Warwick) made an immediate impact in her rookie season, earning All-Mideast Region and First-team All-Centennial Conference honors. Bradley and McDonald were two-of-six Dickinson runners to garner All-Region honors and two-of-five First-team All-Centennial Conference performers. 2006 graduates Emily Hulme, Abbey Fergusson and Annie Scogin will be missed from last year's roster. All three earned All-Region and All-CC honors. Hulme was named the Mideast Region Female Runner of the Year, capturing individual titles at the Mideast Regional and the Centennial Conference Championships. Other top returners this fall will be juniors Laura Straw (Fairport, NY/Fairport), Layla Naficy (Westport, CT/Staples) and Caitlin Strahota (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro), and seniors Stephanie Kipper (Bronx, NY/Riverdale Country), Kirsten Lind ( Tacoma, WA/Annie Wright) and JoAnna Sullivan (Arlington, MA/Arlington). Straw earned First-team All-CC recognition, and placed 14th overall to earn All-Mideast Region honors as well. Naficy ran very well at the end of the year, finishing 17th at the Conference Championships and just missed the cut for All-Region. There are 11 first-year runners on the roster this fall. Coach Nichter believes this to be another strong class with much potential to grow and develop in the program. Mary Hamilton (Pittsburgh, PA/Oakland Catholic), Emily Lawrence (Boulder, CO/Boulder) and Kristina Pfeifer (Merrick, NY/Holy Trinity) are three newcomers that could contribute early in the season. The Red Devil women were picked to finish first in the Centennial Conference coaches' poll. In addition to winning six straight conference titles, the Dickinson women have captured eight titles in the past nine seasons. The Devils received all nine possible first-place votes in the poll. Also on the line is a 12-year unbeaten dual-meet streak which currently stands at 51 consecutive races. They will have two dual-meets this fall, opening with tonight's Capital Area Classic. They square-off head-to-head against Franklin & Marshall and Gettysburg in the Little Three Championship on September 13th. Dickinson will host the 2006 Long Course/Short Course Invitational on October 7th and the Centennial Conference Championships on October 28th.
