Nichols
Named to Adidas/NSCAA & D3Kicks.com All-Region Teams (Carlisle, PA)-- Dickinson College junior Lisa Nichols (North Granby, CT/Granby Memorial) was named to the 2006 National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-Mid-Atlantic Region women's soccer team. Nichols was a Second-team selection to the squad. Nichols was also named to the Third-team of the D3kicks.com All-Mid-Atlantic Region roster. The junior forward had an outstanding season, leading the Centennial Conference in points and goals per game in 2006. She tallied 16 goals and one assist for 33 points. She raised her career totals to 31 goals, placing her sixth all-time at Dickinson. She also ranks tied for eighth with 14 assists and sixth for career points with 76. Nichols scored six of the Devils' eight game-winning goals and had five multiple-goal games this season. Nichols was named First-team All-Centennial Conference for the second straight year, and earned Second-team honors in 2004 as a rookie. Soccer Team (Carlisle, PA)--The Dickinson College women's soccer team had two players named to the 2006 All-Centennial Conference team. Junior forward Lisa Nichols (North Granby, CT/Granby Memorial) earned First-team honors for the second straight year after earning second team honors in 2004. Senior midfielder Erin Parkyn (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) made her second straight appearance as a Second-team selection to the squad. Nichols had an explosive year up front, scoring a conference-best 16 goals this season. She raised her career totals to 31 goals, placing her sixth all-time at Dickinson. She also ranks tied for eighth with 14 assists and ranks sixth for career points with 76. Nichols scored six of the Devils' eight game-winning goals and had five multiple-goal games this season. Parkyn had another outstanding season in the midfield for the Red Devils. Parkyn started all 17 games this season, and all but 10 games in her career. She tallied six goals and 11 assists in her career. Parkyn scored both game-winning goals in Dickinson's two NCAA wins last season before suffering a season-ending injury against Moravian. Overtime (Gettysburg, PA)--The Dickinson College women's soccer team dropped a heartbreaking 2-1 decision in double overtime to Gettysburg College on Saturday afternoon. Gettysburg's Erin Miller nailed one past Dickinson's defense at the 103 mark to seal the win for the Bullets. Dickinson took the 1-0 lead during the first half as senior Jess Griggs (Randolph, NJ/Newark Academy) found teammate Lisa Nichols (North Granby, CT/Granby Memorial) who scored at the 27th minute. The Red Devils shutout the Bullets until a foul was called in the final minute of regulation to give the Bullets at penalty shot opportunity. Gettysburg's Laurie Goon scored and gave the Bullets a second chance against the Red Devils. The Devils and the Bullets battled through the first overtime period evenly as Dickinson took one shot and Gettysburg took two, while both keepers made a stop. Gettysburg outshot the Red Devils in the second overtime period with Miller finding the net to lead her team to a 2-1 victory. Gettysburg held a slight offensive advantage as they outshot Dickinson 13-8. Dickinson's keeper Kailyn Hartmann (Darien, CT/St. Luke's) made six saves on the day, while Gettysburg's Danielle St. Pierre had three. Scores in Final Seconds to Top Devils (Swarthmore, PA) - The Dickinson College women's soccer team suffered a second straight Centennial Conference heartbreaker on Tuesday evening, falling to Johns Hopkins 2-1. The Blue Jays tied the game in the second half and netted the game-winner with just four seconds remaining in regulation. Senior Jess Griggs (Randolph, NJ/Newark Academy) put the Devils in front 1-0 in the 27th minute, scoring off an assist from classmate Kathleen Flaherty (East Williston, NY/The Wheatley School). Kaitlin Gianetti assisted Natalie Held in the 64th minute to tie the game 1-1. Gianetti then struck with the game-winner in the final seconds with an assist from Laurie Baumann. First-year goalkeeper Kailyn Hartmann (Darien, CT/St. Luke's) made five saves for Dickinson as JHU outshot the Devils 18-6 and held a 6-1 edge in corners. Kerry Hamilton stopped two shots for Hopkins in the first half and Karen Guszkowski tallied two saves in the second. The Red Devils slip to 8-8 overall and 5-4 in the conference. They wrap up the regular season on Saturday at Gettysburg. Kick-off is set for 1:00 pm. Swarthmore Escapes With 1-0 Double OT Win (Swarthmore, PA) - The Dickinson College women's soccer team fell to host Swarthmore College 1-0 in double overtime on Saturday afternoon. Katie Kanuka scored on a breakaway in the 104th minute to lead the Garnet Tide to its sixth Centennial Conference win. Swarthmore improves to 12-3-1 overall and 6-3 in the conference while the Devils slip to 8-7 and 5-3 in the CC. First-year goalkeeper Kailyn Hartmann (Darien, CT/St. Luke's) made six saves on the day. Swarthmore's Lauren Walker tallied four. The Garnet outshot Dickinson 18-11 and held a 5-2 advantage on corners. The Red Devils host Johns Hopkins on Tuesday at 5:00 pm. Mules Slip Past Devils 2-1 (Carlisle, PA) - The Dickinson College women's soccer team suffered a tough 2-1 set-back to visiting Muhlenberg College on Wednesday evening. The Mules jumped out to a 2-0 lead at halftime and held on for the win. The Mules improve to 9-5 overall and 5-3 in the Centennial Conference. Dickinson slips to 8-6 overall and 5-2 in the CC. Muhlenberg struck first on an own goal by the Devils. Christina O'Grady broke into the box and ripped a shot that was deflected by goalkeeper Kailyn Hartmann (Darien, CT/St. Luke's). A Dickinson defender attempted to clear a bouncing ball off the line, but could not turn it quite enough to keep the ball out of the net. O'Grady would make sure at the 25:18 mark as she intercepted a pass in the Devils' defensive third and broke free to put the Mules in front 2-0. The Red Devils continued to battle and finally answered off the foot of junior Lisa Nichols (North Granby, CT/Granby Memorial) in the 64th minute. Nichols received a pass from classmate Abby Snyder (Forstburg, MD/Beall) and hit a beautifully placed ball inside the far post. Dickinson continued to pressure the Mules, forcing 10 corners, including seven in the second half. The Devils also held a 22-12 advantage in shots, but solid play from Muhlenberg goalkeeper Kayla Boisvert secured the win for the Mules. Boisvert finished with 15 saves on the night. Hartmann was solid in the Dickinson net as well, making nine saves. Senior Jess Griggs (Randolph, NJ/Newark Academy) and sophomore Sarah Casey (Severna Park, MD/Archbishop Spalding) added some quality scoring chances while seniors Erin Parkyn (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Honor, Also Named to ECAC (Carlisle, PA) - Dickinson College junior Lisa Nichols (North Granby, CT/Granby Memorial) was named the Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight time on Monday. Nichols was also selected as the Mid-Atlantic Region ECAC Player of the Week. Nichols continued her string of multiple goal games with a hat-trick against Juniata College on Tuesday and struck in the 83rd minute to lead Dickinson to a come-from-behind win over Haverford. Nichols tallied her school-best sixth game-winning goal of the season against Haverford as the Red Devils improved to 8-5 overall and 5-1 in the conference. The Devils host Muhlenberg College on Wednesday evening at 5:00 pm. Devil Women Rally to Top 'Fords 2-1 (Carlisle, PA) - The Dickinson College women's soccer team erased a 1-0 deficit with a pair of second half goals to defeat visiting Haverford College 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. Theresa Vankerke put Haverford on the board in the 25th minute. The 'Fords held the lead into halftime, but junior Abby Snyder (Frostburg, MD/Beall) struck just three minutes after the break with an assist from senior Jess Griggs (Randolph, NJ/Newark Academy) to tie the game 1-1. Junior Lisa Nichols (North Granby, CT/Granby Memorial) tallied her sixth game-winning goal of the season, her 14th overall with just seven minutes remaining to give Dickinson a 2-1 lead. Senior Gina Lengeling (Maplewood, NJ/Kent Place) assisted on the game-winner. The Devils maintained possession for the better part of the match, holding a 14-4 shot advantage and an 8-1 edge in corners. Nichols Tallies Trick in 4-1 Win Over Juniata (Carlisle, PA) - Dickinson College junior Lisa Nichols (North Granby, CT/Granby Memorial) continued her string of multiple-goal games, recording a hat-trick to lead the Red Devil women's soccer team to a 4-1 win over Juniata on Tuesday evening. Nichols scored two goals in each of Dickinson's two wins last week, earning her Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors in the Centennial Conference. Nichols broke free and was taken down on the penalty area in the 15th minute. She converted the penalty kick to put the Devils in front 1-0. First-year Laura Goodlander tied the game with a long shot into the net at the 34:51 mark. Goodlander found herself free about 25 yards out and hit a well-placed shot just under the crossbar to even the score 1-1. Nichols answered with the game-winner, ripping a shot that deflected off the keeper's hands and into the net with just 12 seconds remaining in the half. The goal gave Nichols her team-best fifth game-winner of the season. After the break, senior Jess Griggs (Randolph, NJ/Newark Academy) added some insurance, scoring off a long serve from first-year Courtney Anderson (South Pasadena, CA/South Pasadena) to stretch the margin to 3-1. Nichols closed out the scoring in the 72nd minute, pulling the trigger from 25 yards out with a shot to the upper left corner. The Eagles battled throughout the game as Dickinson kept the pressure on for the entire 90 minutes. The Devils outshot Juniata 35-6 and held a 14-1 advantage in corners. Nichols tallied a pair of two-goal games last week, leading the Red Devils to wins over Franklin & Marshall and Bryn Mawr. Nichols struck once in each half as Dickinson defeated F&M 2-0. She added her fourth game-winning goal of the season in a 3-0 shutout against Bryn Mawr. Nichols scored in the 17th minute and again in the 56th minute. The Red Devils (5-5, 4-1) host Juniata College on Tuesday and Haverford on Saturday. Red Devils Handle Bryn Mawr 3-0 (Carlisle, PA) - The Dickinson College women's soccer team improved to 4-1 in the Centennial Conference, blanking visiting Bryn Mawr College 3-0 on Saturday afternoon. Junior Lisa Nichols (North Granby, CT/Granby Memorial) recorded her second straight two-goal game, netting the game-winner in the 17th minute. Nichols put the Devils on the board at the 16:03 mark, scoring unassisted. First-year Courtney Anderson (South Pasadena, CA/South Pasadena) broke through the defense and scored in the 32nd minute to put the Devils in front 2-0 at halftime. After the break, Anderson fed Nichols with a beautiful through ball in the 56th minute to stretch the lead to 3-0. The Red Devils unleashed 20 shots in each half to finish with a 40-7 advantage. They also forced six corners while not surrendering any on the defensive end. Collette Pullion made 17 saves on goal for Bryn Mawr (5-6-1, 0-5 CC). First-year Kailyn Hartmann (Darien, CT/St. Luke's) posted her second straight shutout, making one save for Dickinson. Nichols Strikes Twice as Devils Topple F&M (Lancaster, PA) - The Dickinson College women's soccer team posted a 2-0 win over Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday. Junior Lisa Nichols (North Granby, CT/Granby Memorial) scored once in each half to lead the Devils as they improve to 5-5 overall and 3-1 in the Centennial Conference. Nichols placed a shot in the right corner of the net off an assist from first-year Courtney Anderson (South Pasadena, CA/South Pasadena) in the 11th minute to put the Devils in front 1-0. Nichols found the right corner of the net again in the 79th minute with an assist from senior Jess Griggs (Randolph, NJ/Newark Academy). Dickinson outshot the Diplomats 13-7 and held a slim 5-4 advantage in corners. Robyn Jones made five saves for F&M while first-year Kailyn Hartmann (Darien, CT/St. Lukes) earned the start and the shutout for Dickinson with three saves behind a solid defensive effort. Second Half Goals Lead McDaniel Past Devils (Westminster, MD) - The Dickinson College women's soccer team dropped its first conference match of the season, falling to McDaniel College 2-0 on Tuesday afternoon. Sarah Wallace scored a pair of goals in the second half to lead McDaniel. The Red Devils doubled-up the Green Terror on shots 24-12, but McDaniel Goalkeeper Michelle Mullen was solid, making 14 saves. Junior goalkeeper Ashley Damewood (Kingston, MA/Silver Lake Regional) made three saves in the Red Devil nets. The game remained scoreless until Jamie Janowich fed Wallace for the game-winner in the 54th minute. Wallace struck again with just 3:24 remaining off an assist from Kristen Warfield to secure the win. McDaniel improves to 3-5 overall and 2-1 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils slip to 4-5 overall and 2-1 in the CC. They travel to Franklin & Marshall next Wednesday for a 4:30 match with the Diplomats. Casey Nets Two as Devils Top Ursinus 3-1 (Collegeville, PA) - The Dickinson College women's soccer team improved to 2-0 in the Centennial Conference and 4-4 overall with a 3-1 win at Ursinus. Sophomore Sarah Casey (Severna Park, MD/Archbishop Spalding) scored two goals while junior Lisa Nichols (N. Granby, CT/Granby Memorial) drove the game-winner into the upper right-hand corner from 25 yards out. Ursinus struck first as Elizabeth Cannon converted a free kick from Lauren Washam in the 28th minute. Casey directed a header past the Urinus keeper on a beatifully placed free kick from senior Jess Griggs (Randolph, NJ/Newark Academy) five minutes later. Nichols ripped the game-winner into the upper 90 at the 58:14 mark. Casey added the insurance off a corner at 61:41 to secure the win. Ashley Damewood (Kingston, MA/Silver Lake Regional) made six saves for Dickinson while Ashley Potter and Lisa Clark combined to stop four shots. Devils Win Conference Opener 9-0 (Carlisle, PA)--The Dickinson College women's soccer team ran past Washington College for a 9-0 win in their Centennial Conference opener on Saturday afternoon. Senior Jess Griggs (Randolph, NJ/Newark Academy) and junior Lisa Nichols (N. Granby, CT/Granby Memorial) led the offense with four goals on the day, each netting two for the Red Devils. The Red Devils came out on fire, with Nichols scoring the first goal within minutes of the start of the game. Fifteen minutes into the half, first-year Courtney Anderson (South Pasadena, CA/Pasadena) fired one past the Shorewomen keeper to give the Red Devils a 2-0 lead. The Red Devils struck minutes later as sophomore Danielle Fried (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) crossed the ball to classmate Sarah Casey (Severna Park, MD/Archbishop Spalding) who found the back of the net. First-year Christy Arndt (Boyds, MD/Connelly School of the Holy Child) closed out the half with her second goal of the season, giving Dickinson the 4-0 advantage. Dickinson kept up the offensive pressure after the break as they scored four goals in five minutes. Senior Gina Lengeling (Maplewood, NJ/Kent Place) kicked off the scoring spree, knocking one past the Washington goalkeeper. Casey then assisted a goal to Nichols and seconds later set up first-year Emily Pease (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial) for the seventh goal of the day. Griggs rounded out the game netting two goals to bring home the 9-0 win. Dickinson outshot Washington 25-3 and forced eight corners. Junior Ashley Damewood (Kingston, MA/Silver Lake Regional) made two saves for the Devils, while Washington's keeper notched 10 saves for the Shorewomen. The Red Devils improve 3-4 overall and 1-0 in the conference and travel to Ursinus next Saturday.
York College Slips Past Devils 1-0 (York, PA)- The Dickinson College women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision at York College on Wednesday night. Junior Erin Kuhn scored off an assist from classmate Emily Sullivan in the 57th minute to lead the Spartans to the win as they improve to 3-2-1 on the season. York was on the offensive for the better part of the match, outshooting the Red Devils 17-7 and holding a 7-5 advantage on corner kicks. Junior goalkeeper Ashley Damewood (Kingston, MA/Silver Lake Regional) made 10 saves in the Dickinson net. Amanda Lomberg stopped four shots to post the shutout for York. The Red Devils slip to 2-4 overall. They return home to host Washington College in their Centennial Conference opener on Saturday. Kick-off is scheduled for 2:30 pm. Classic Title (Carlisle, PA)- Senior Kelli Peirano scored two goals and Kate Weale added a pair of assists to lead #25-ranked Otterbein College to a 4-0 win over Dickinson and the 2006 Red Devil Classic title. Peirano scored the game-winner in the 15th minute and added her second just three minutes later to put the Cardinals in front 2-0. Sophomore Michelle Weingarth made a strong tackle and went straight to goal to stretch the margin to 3-0 in the 25th minute. Senior Karen Beers finished a pass from Weale at the 79:41 mark to close out the scoring for the game. Despite the score, the Red Devils played relatively even with Otterbein throughout the contest. The Devils held a 15-9 advantage on shots and a slight 3-2 edge in corners. Jess Griggs (Randolph, NJ/Newark Academy) and Lisa Nichols (N. Granby, CT/Granby Memorial) proved to be a threat all afternoon in the attacking third while sophomores Rachel Finan (Williamstown, MA/Mt. Buffalo's Mindy Wendt tied the game with a goal and again with an assist to force the game into overtime. Senior Tiffany Ebner tied the game 2-2 off a corner from Wendt in the 50th minute and tallied the game-winner just 1:25 into the extra period. Senior Erin Parkyn (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) put the Devils on the board first with a shot to the upper right corner in the 17th minute. Wendt answered in the 23rd minute to even the score at 1-1. Junior Lisa Nichols (N. Granby, CT/Granby Memorial) made the score 2-1 at the 34:35 mark with an assisted goal from the top of the penalty box. Just five minutes into the second half Ebner converted a corner from Wendt to knot the match at 2-2. Ebner broke through quickly in the first overtime period to net the game-winner in the 92nd minute. The Red Devils fall even at 2-2 on the season. They will face Otterbein on Sunday at 2:00 in the second round of the Red Devil Women's Soccer Classic. Otterbein posted a 5-0 shutout over St. Vincent College in the other first round match-up. Buffalo State will face St. Vincent at 12:00 pm on Sunday. The Greyhounds scored twice in the first half, both goals following scrambles in front of the Red Devil net. Moravian struck in the 67th minute off a long rebound to close out the scoring. The Red Devils struggled in the first half but came out strong in the second, creating some strong chances in the attacking third. The Red Devils return to action on Saturday in the first round of the Red Devil Classic. Dickinson will host Buffalo State at 12:00, followed by Otterbein and St. Vincent at 2:00 pm. Kathleen Flaherty (East Williston, NY/The Wheatley School) tallied the game-winner, scoring off a corner just 3:22 into the game. Junior Lisa Nichols (N. Granby, CT/Granby Memorial) added a pair of insurance goals, just 19 seconds apart at 82:53 and 83:12. The feat tied the seventh fastest scoring of consecutive goals by a player in the history of Division III women's soccer. Dickinson held a 19-4 shot advantage and a 7-1 edge in corners. First-year goalkeeper Kailyn Hartmann (Darien, CT/St. Luke's) earned the shutout. Nichols earned All-Tournament Team honors, scoring a pair of goals and one assist for the weekend. Dickinson's Christy Arnt (Boyds, MD/Connelly School of the Holy Child) netted the game-winner on a long shot to lead the Devils to a 2-1 win in their 2006 season opener.
