Menconi Earns All-Centennial Conference Honors Dickinson College senior setter Karina Menconi (Tamaqua, PA/Marian) was named to the 2003 All-Centennial Conference women's volleyball team. Menconi was an honorable mention selection, and was also named to the Centennial Conference Academic honor roll. Just one of 10 players in conference history to record 3,000 assists, Menconi holds the school record with 3,235. She also set a school record with 259 career service aces. In her final match, Menconi dished out 52 assists, the third highest single-match total in school history. She holds seven of the top ten single-match highs, and is the single-season record holder with 926 in her sophomore year. The Red Devils won nine of their last 16 matches this season, finishing 11-16 overall and 5-5 in the conference. Devils Battle Back, But Fall in Five (Carlisle, PA) -- The Dickinson College women's volleyball team did not want to send senior setter Karina Menconi (Tamaqua, PA/Marian) home early in her final match at the Kline Center. The Red Devils rallied from a 0-2 deficit, tying the match and forcing a deciding fifth game. McDaniel College jumped out to a 6-2 start in game five before the Devils rallied again to cut the lead to 8-7. The teams continued to battle, but the Green Terror eventually pulled ahead for a 15-12 win. The biggest margin of victory in the match was a 30-25 score in game two. Menconi had a monster night to finish her career, recording 52 assists, the third highest total for a match in school history. That total raises her school record to 3,235 assists for her career as just one of 10 Centennial Conference players to reach 3,000. Middle hitters Margie Hatch (Rockville, MD/Wootton-Principia Upper) and Ashley Young (Hume, VA/Fauquier) had 17 and 16 kills, respectively to lead the Devil attack. Junior Julie Becker (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) had a double-double evening with 12 kills and 14 digs while Kellyn Ritter (Audubon, PA/Archbishop Carroll) added eight kills and seven digs on the night. Sophomore libero Ashley Lakin (Bowie, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt) had 24 digs to raise her career total to 929. The Red Devils played one of their best matches of the year to wrap up the season 11-16 overall and 5-5 in the conference. Game Scores: Devils Top Swarthmore, Fall to Hopkins (Swarthmore, PA) -- The Dickinson College women's volleyball team split another Centennial Conference twin-bill on Saturday, falling to Johns Hopkins 3-0 and defeating Swarthmore 3-2. Margie Hatch (Rockville, MD/Wootton Principia Upper) had 25 kills on the day, including 17 in the win over Swarthmore. Freshman Ashley Young (Hume, VA/Fauquier) recorded 12 kills, five solo blocks and four aces against Swarthmore, and added five kills against Hopkins. Kellyn Ritter (Audubon, PA/Archbishop Carroll) chipped in with 11 kills, four aces and 17 digs in the Swarthmore match. She added five kills as well versus JHU. Sophomore libero Ashley Lakin (Bowie, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt) had 18 digs in the opener and was just two shy of her own school record with 38 in the nightcap. The Red Devils (11-15, 5-4 CC) are home for their regular-season finale on Wednesday. They will host McDaniel College at 7:00 pm. Game Scores: Devils Fall in Four at F&M (Lancaster, PA) -- The Dickinson College women's volleyball team dropped a Centennial Conference match to Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday night. The Diplomats claimed a 3-1 decision (30-22, 28-30, 30-13, 30-18) to improve to 13-9 overall and 6-1 in the CC. Freshman Ashley Young (Hume, VA/Fauquier) led the Devil attack with nine kills while also recording a pair of blocks. Margie Hatch (Rockville, MD/Wootton Principia Upper) added five kills and two blocks. Defensively, Kellyn Ritter (Audubon, PA/Archbishop Carroll) had 13 digs and libero Ashley Lakin (Bowie, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt) picked up a team-high 20. Senior setter Karina Menconi (Tamaqua, PA/Marian) dished out 17 assists to go with seven kills and two service aces on the night. The Red Devils fall to 10-14 overall and 4-3 in the conference. They will travel to Swarthmore on Saturday to face the Garnet Tide as well as Johns Hopkins. Devils Split Centennial Twin-Bill (Carlisle, PA) -- The Dickinson College women's volleyball team split a Centennial Conference double-header on Saturday, falling to Haverford, then beating Ursinus. The Devils dropped a 3-0 decision to the 'Fords (30-20, 30-23, 30-25), but regrouped to top the Bears 3-1 (30-28, 25-30, 30-24, 30-27). Kellyn Ritter (Audubon, PA/Archbishop Carroll) led Dickinson with 12 kills and 15 digs against Haverford, and added 11 kills against Ursinus. Margie Hatch (Rockville, MD/Wootton Principia Upper) pounded out 17 kills in the Ursinus match and had nine versus Haverford. Senior Karina Menconi (Tamaqua, PA/Marian) tallied 36 and 47 assists, and libero Ashley Lakin (Bowie, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt) had a 27digs in the two matches. Freshman Ashley Young (Hume, VA/Fauquier) added 10 kills and six blocks against Ursinus while Cara Scaduto (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) served up three aces. The Red Devils stand at 10-13 overall and 4-2 in the conference. They will travel to Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday to meet the Diplomats at 7:00 pm. Devils Drop Tight 3-1 Match to Elizabethtown (Carlisle, PA) -- The Dickinson College women's volleyball team took an early 1-0 lead on Elizabethtown, but the Blue Jays rallied to win three straight and capture a very tight match 3-1. The Devils worked overtime for the win in game one, posting a 35-33 decision. E'Town claimed game two with the biggest margin of the night at 30-24. They won game three 30-25 and held off a late charge by Dickinson in game four to win 30-28. Freshman Ashley Young (Hume, VA/Fauquier) had another monster outing with 17 kills and three aces on the night. Junior Julie Becker (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) also had a big night with 14 kills and 18 digs. Senior Karina Menconi (Tamaqua, PA/Marian) tallied 44 assists while recording nine kills and eight digs, and libero Ashley Lakin (Bowie, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt) had a team-high 25 digs. The Red Devils slip to 9-12 overall. They return to Centennial Conference action on Saturday, traveling to Ursinus to face the Bears and Haverford in a tri-match. Devils Win Two in Centennial Tri-Match (Allentown, PA) -- The Dickinson College women's volleyball team posted a pair of Centennial Conference wins on Saturday, rallying to beat Muhlenberg 3-2 and sweeping Washington 3-0. The Red Devils fell behind 2-0 in the opener against Muhlenberg, dropping the first two games 30-28 and 30-27. They regrouped to take the final three games 30-27, 30-19 and 15-12. Dickinson carried the momentum into the second match, sweeping Washington College 30-18, 31-29 and 30-19 to raise their overall record to 9-11 on the season. Freshman Ashley Young (Hume, VA/Fauquier) led the Devil attack in both matches, recording 18 kills against Muhlenberg and 12 in the Washington match. She was also a dominant force from the service line with five and four aces, in respective matches. Sophomore Margie Hatch (Rockville, MD/Wootton-Principia Upper) added 12 kills and five blocks against the Mules while Julie Becker (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) and Kellyn Ritter (Audubon, PA/Archbishop Carroll) chipped in with 11 and eight kills. Ritter played solid defense as well with 17 digs. Senior setter Karina Menconi (Tamaqua, PA/Marian) recorded 48 assists versus the Mules and libero Ashley Lakin (Bowie, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt) led the Devils' with 20 digs. Menconi added 30 assists in the second match. Freshman Sara Fultz (Baltimore, MD/Catonsville) gave a strong performance against Washington with five kills and three blocks. Jen Voltz (Saxonburg, PA/Knoch) had five kills versus Muhlenberg and Haley Mason (Huntingdon, PA/Huntingdon Area) added three kills and nine digs in the nightcap. With the wins, Dickinson improves to 3-1 in the Centennial Conference. They will host Elizabethtown in a non-conference match-up on Thursday at 7:00 pm. Devils Capture 3-2 Win Over Villa Julie (Carlisle, PA) -- The Dickinson College women's volleyball team played another outstanding match, topping Villa Julie 3-2 on Wednesday night. Kellyn Ritter (Audubon , PA/Archbishop Carroll) led the attack with 13 kills and also tallied eight digs. Julie Becker (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) posted nine kills, 15 digs and had four aces on the night. Sophomore Margie Hatch (Rockville, MD/Wootton-Principia Upper) added eight kills while freshmen Jen Voltz (Saxonburg, PA/Knoch) and Ashley Young (Hume, Va/Fauquier) chipped in with seven and six, respectively. Senior Karina Menconi (Tamaqua, PA/Marian) had a big night as well with 33 assists and eight digs, as did Ashley Lakin (Bowie, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt) who had 28 digs. The Devils dropped games one and three 30-26 and 30-23, but rallied to tie the match twice with a 30-25 win in game two and 30-26 in the fourth. Dickinson jumped out early in the deciding game and never looked back en route to a 15-5 decision. They improve to 7-11 overall and return to Centennial Conference action on Saturday at Muhlenberg with Washington. Devils Split CC Tri-Match at Gettysburg (Carlisle, PA) -- The Dickinson College women's volleyball team split a Centennial Conference tri-match at Gettysburg on Saturday. The Red Devils fell to the hosts 3-0 (30-23, 30-19, 30-16) and topped Bryn Mawr 3-0 (30-22, 30-11, 30-23). Margie Hatch (Rockville, MD/Wootton-Principia Upper) led the Red Devils with 18 kills while Ashley Young (Hume, VA/Fauquier) added 16 kills and four blocks on the day. Junior Julie Becker (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) chipped in with nine kills. Sophomore libero Ashley Lakin (Bowie, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt), posted 33 digs, including 21 against Gettysburg. Devils Win Third Straight, Turn Back Albright 3-1 (Carlisle, PA) -- The Dickinson College women's volleyball team won its third straight match to improve to 5-10 on the season. The Red Devils rallied after dropping game one to win the next three for a 3-1 victory over Albright. Margie Hatch (Rockville, MD/Wootton-Principia Upper) led the Red Devils with 10 kills and four blocks. She was virtually unstoppable in game three, pounding out four kills. Ashley Young (Hume, VA/Fauquier) added nine kills, as did Kellyn Ritter (Audubon, PA/Archbishop Carroll), who also picked up 15 digs on the night. Junior Julie Becker (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) played outstanding as well, recording five kills, six digs and a pair of aces. Dickinson turned in a solid defensive effort, led by sophomore libero Ashley Lakin (Bowie, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt), posting 16 digs. Senior setter Karina Menconi (Tamaqua, PA/Marian) put up 34 assists and was solid from the service line with four aces. Albright claimed game one 30-20 before the Devils swept the next three 30-20, 30-17, 30-23. The Red Devils head to Gettysburg College on Saturday to face the Bullets and Bryn Mawr in a Centennial tri-match, starting at 11:00 am. Devils Outlast Gators For Second Straight Win (Baltimore, MD) -- The Dickinson College women's volleyball team won its second straight match to improve to 4-10 on the season with a 3-2 victory over the College of Notre Dame on Tuesday night. The teams traded games with CND claiming the opener 30-22 and Dickinson knotting the match with a 30-26 win in game two. The Gators regained the lead with a 30-23 decision, but the Devils rallied to take the match 30-18 and 15-13. Ashley Young (Hume, VA/Fauquier) led the offense with 18 kills on the night while Margie Hatch (Rockville, MD/Wootton-Principia Upper) added 13. Young was also solid on the defensive side of the net, posting five blocks, including three solo. Senior setter Karina Menconi (Tamaqua, PA/Marian) had another big night, dishing out 47 assists to raise her career total to 2,781. She also added to her school record for career service aces, recording five in the match. Libero Ashley Lakin (Bowie, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt) posted 14 digs on the day. Big Numbers, Big Win For Devil Spikers (Winchester, VA) -- The Dickinson College women's volleyball team captured a 3-1 decision from Shenandoah University on Wednesday night. Following a 30-23 win in the opening game, the Devils saw SU tie match by taking game two 30-27. Dickinson regrouped to claim the next two games 30-19 and 30-26. Ashley Young (Hume, VA/Fauquier) had a big night with 14 kills while Kellyn Ritter (Audubon, PA/Archbishop Carroll) added 11 kills and had 17 digs. Margie Hatch (Rockville, MD/Wootton-Principia Upper) added to the attack with 10 kills, and also put up four blocks on the night. Senior setter Karina Menconi (Tamaqua, PA/Marian) added to her career records with five service aces and 51 assists, tying the school record for assists in a four-game match. The sophomore already holds the school single-season record (491), and the top five single-match totals. The Red Devils improve to 3-10 on the year. Devils Fall in Three to Rowan University (Glassboro, NJ) -- The Dickinson College women's volleyball team dropped a three-game match to Rowan University on Saturday. The Profs topped the Devils 30-21, 30-21, 30-26 as they improve to 5-6 on the season. Ashley Young (Hume, VA/Fauquier) had a team-high eight kills and three solo blocks while Kellyn Ritter (Audubon, PA/Archbishop Carroll) added five kills and 11 digs. Senior setter Karina Menconi (Tamaqua, PA/Marian) added to her career records with one service aces and 14 assists in two games. Jen Voltz (Saxonburg, PA/Knoch) had eight assists and three kills. Devils Battle Lions to Five Game Set-Back (Carlisle, PA) -- The Dickinson College women's volleyball team rallied to force a fifth game before Penn State-Altoona managed to escape with a 3-2 victory here on Tuesday night. The Lions captured games one and three 30-20 and 30-21, but the Devils stayed alive with tight 30-28 decisions in both games two and four. Dickinson then jumped out to an early 6-1 lead in the final game. PSU regained momentum, however and captured the match, outscoring the Devils 14-2 for a 15-8 final. Margie Hatch (Rockville, MD/Wootton-Principia Upper) led the attack with 11 kills on the night while Ashley Young (Hume, VA/Fauquier) and Julie Becker (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) added 10 and nine, respectively. Becker also tallied 13 digs on the night. Senior setter Karina Menconi (Tamaqua, PA/Marian) added to her career records with five service aces and 29 assists. She also dug 19 balls in the match, and had five kills. Libero Ashley Lakin (Bowie, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt) had an outstanding night defensively, posting 23 digs with only three reception errors. The Red Devils slip to 2-9 on the year. They are scheduled to travel to the Marymount Invitational this weekend in Arlington, Virginia. Devils Play Well, Drop Pair (Grantham, PA) -- The Dickinson College women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at Messiah College on Saturday, falling to York College 0-3 and the hosts 3-1. Against York, sophomore Margie Hatch (Rockville, MD/Wootton-Principia Upper) led the attack with 10 kills and also had four solo blocks. Ashley Lakin (Bowie, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt) had 13 digs while Kellyn Ritter (Audubon, PA/Archbishop Carroll) added 12. Karina Menconi (Tamaqua, PA/Marian) dished out 22 assists and had six digs in the match. The Red Devils gave a strong performance against Messiah before falling in four games. The Falcons captured game one 30-18, but Dickinson evened the match with a 30-23 decision in game two. The teams battled in game three with Messiah claiming a 32-30 decision. In game four, it was more of the same with Messiah holding on to win the match with a 30-24 victory. Julie Becker (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) led the Devils with 10 kills and five digs. Ritter recorded nine kills, 15 digs and four aces. Lakin racked up 20 digs in the nightcap while Kali Enyeart (Elizabeth, PA/Elizabeth Forward) added 12. Menconi had 27 assists to go with three aces and eight digs. Ashley Young (Hume, VA/Fauquier) added three aces and three solo blocks. The Devils are home on Tuesday when they host Penn State-Altoona at 7:00 pm. Devils Spikers Fall at LVC (Annville, PA) -- The Dickinson College women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision at Lebanon Valley on Wednesday night. The Dutchwomen turned back the Devils 30-16 in games one and two, and held on for a 30-25 decision in game three to claim the match. Sophomore Ashley Lakin (Bowie, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt) recorded 14 digs in a strong defensive effort. Karina Menconi (Tamaqua, PA/Marian) had 13 assists, three kills and three service aces. Julie Becker (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) had three kills as well. Dickinson travels to Grantham (PA) on Saturday for a tri-match against host Messiah College and York. Menconi Earns All-Tourney Honors, Sets School Ace Record (Allentown, PA) -- The Dickinson College women's volleyball team turned in a solid performance at the Muhlenberg College Buttermaker Tournament. The Red Devils finished 1-2, but played some quality matches over the weekend. On Friday night Dickinson jumped out to a 2-0 lead with 30-22 and 30-27 wins over King's College. King's battled back to take the next two games 30-25, and 30-17, forcing a deciding game five. The Monarchs found their groove and captured game five 15-6 to win the match. Kellyn Ritter (Audubon, PA/Archbishop Carroll) had 10 kills and 15 digs while Ashley Lakin (Bowie, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt) had 13 digs and Margie Hatch (Rockville, MD/Wootton-Principia Upper) recorded seven solo blocks and one assisted. Senior Karina Menconi (Tamaqua, PA/Marian) dished out 32 assists in the match while serving up a pair of aces. Dickinson swept Alvernia 3-0 in the nightcap, turning back the Crusaders (30-28, 30-27, 30-23). Julie Becker (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin) and Ashley Young (Hume, VA/Fauquier) each tallied nine kills, and Young also added five solo blocks. Lakin picked up 12 digs in the match and Menconi had 24 assists. On Saturday, the Devils dropped a 3-0 match to Tournament runner-up Brockport State (30-20, 30-19, 30-21). Young again led the way with nine kills. Ritter had a team-high 13 digs, Lakin reached double-figures as well with 10. Menconi had nine assists in the match and also recorded two service aces as she becomes the career record holder with 213. She was named to the All-Tournament team for her outstanding play over the weekend. The Devils are 2-5 on the season. They travel to Annville on Wednesday to face Lebanon Valley at 7:00 pm. Devils Fall at DII Shippensburg 3-0 (Shippensburg, PA) -- Michelle Doughty recorded a match high 13 kills, leading Division II Shippensburg past the Dickinson College volleyball team on Wednesday night. The Red Raiders were in control for most of the match, but Dickinson jumped out to a 9-4 lead in game two. Shippensburg rallied to take a 12-11 advantage en route to a 30-21 win. Dickinson continued to battle in game three before falling 30-26. Junior Kellyn Ritter (Audubon, PA/Archbishop Carroll) and senior Karina Menconi (Tamaqua, PA/Marian) each recorded four kills to lead Dickinson. The Red Devils travel to Allentown to compete in the Muhlenberg College Buttermaker Tournament on Friday and Saturday. Match Score: Albright Captures Dickinson Invitational Title (Carlisle, PA) -- Albright College posted perfect 3-0 record to capture the team title at the 2003 Dickinson College Volleyball Invitational. Philadelphia Biblical College finished second with a 2-1 mark, falling only to Albright. Dickinson topped Cedar Crest 3-1in the opener, but could not get by PBC or Albright, finishing the afternoon 1-2. Junior Kellyn Ritter (Audubon, PA/Archbishop Carroll) led the Devils with 25 kills on the afternoon, while also picking up 13 digs. Classmate Julie Becker (Pittsburgh, PA/Baldwin), making her volleyball debut tallied 18 kills, 10 service aces and 16 digs. Becker also plays softball and has been the Devils' starting catcher for the past two seasons. Senior setter Karina Menconi (Tamaqua, PA/Marian) recorded 40 assists on the afternoon. She is the school record holder in that category with 2,504. She added 10 aces as well, raising her career total to 205. Freshman Sara Fultz (Baltimore, MD/Catonsville) had a strong start with 11 blocks on the day, including nine solos.
