| Burger Repeats as All-Centennial Conference Selection (Carlisle, PA)- Dickinson College sophomore Jess Burger (W. Windsor, NJ/W. Windsor-Plainsboro N.) was named to the 2006 All-Centennnial Conference softball team. Burger moved from second base to the outfield this season, earning Honorable Mention honors for the second straight season. Burger earned All-Centennial honors at second base in 2005 and proved just as valuable in the outfield this spring. She led the Red Devils with a .358 batting average, scoring 21 runs and driving in 18 for the season. She also stole a team-best 10 bases on the year. The Red Devils posted a 16-24 record overall and finished 5-11 in the conference. Devils Drop Two in Season Finale (Chestertown, MD)- The Dickinson College softball team suffered a pair of losses at Washington College on Sunday to finish the season 16-24 overall and 5-11 in the Centennial Conference. The Red Devils led 6-5 entering the bottom of the sixth inning before the Shorewomen erupted with five runs to lead 10-6. Dickinson managed two more runs in the seventh, but couldn't pull even, falling 10-8. Rachel Fleming (Phoenix, AZ/Chaparral) went 4-for-5 with and RBI and three runs scored to pace the Devils in game one. Alex Speace (Chester Springs, PA/Bishop Shanahan) went 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored. Kaitlin McDonald (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) added three hits while Karrie Brondell (Bloomington, IN/Kennett) drove in two runs. In game two, Fleming again led the Red Devil offense with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate. McDonald and Eve Massa (Ridley Park, PA/Ridley) each had two hits as well. Washinton scored both runs in the fourth innning. The Devils answered with a run in the sixth inning. Brondell singled and would eventually score on an error off the bat of Megan Spears (Skowhegan, ME/Skowhegan Area). The Shorewomen would hold on and complete
the sweep as they finish 16-22 overall and 6-10 in the conference. Bears Escape With Twin-Bill Sweep (Collegeville, PA)- The Dickinson College softball team suffered a pair of Centennial Conferences losses at Ursinus College on Saturday. The Bears claimed a 5-0 decision in the opener and slipped past the Devils 2-1 in the nightcap. Ursinus scored runs in the first and third innings, and added three in the fourth behind just six hits to post a 5-0 shutout in game one. The Bears scored in the even innings in game two, taking a 2-0 lead with runs in the second and fourth innings. The Devils scored one in the fifth to cut the deficit in half, but could not pull even as they slip to 16-22 overall and 5-9 in the conference. Lisa Biddle (Annandale, VA/Falls Church) went 3-for-5 with a double to lead the Devils at the plate. Sophomore Rachel Fleming (Phoenix, AZ/Chaparral) added two hits and drove in the run in game two. Junior Alex Speace (Chester Springs, PA/Bishop Shanahan) recorded her 100th career hit in the opener. Senior pitcher Lauren Porter (Fairfax, VA/WT Woodson) allowed just six hits in game one, striking out four and walking one. She combined with Karrie Brondell (Bloomington, IL/Kennett) to hold Ursinus to just three hits in game two. The Red Devils travel to Washington College on Sunday for a make-up double-header. Devils Rally to Sweep Diplomats in Driving Rain (Carlisle, PA)- The Dickinson College softball team rallied from an 11-3 deficit in game two to win 12-11 in eight innings and complete a sweep of Franklin & Marshall College on Tuesday evening. The Red Devils escaped with a 3-2 win in game one. Rachel Fleming (Phoenix, AZ/Chaparral) went 2-for-3, scored a run and stole two bases to lead the Devils at the plate. Lisa Biddle (Annandale, VA/Falls Church) added a double while Megan Spears (Skowhegan, ME/Skowhegan Area) went 1-for-1 with a double and an RBI. Lauren Porter (Fairfax, VA/WT Woodson) recorded five strikeouts in the win. In a driving rain the Red Devils rallied from an 11-3 deficit with six runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 11-9. They added a pair in the seventh on back-to-back, bases-loaded walks to tie the game. F&M scored one in the first and watched the Devils take a 3-1 lead with a trio of unearned runs in the bottom of the first. The Diplomats scored five in the third, two in the fifth and three in the sixth to take control of the game. The Devils erupted in the sixth, highlighted by a two-run double from Alex Speace (Chester Springs, PA/Bishop Shanahan). Spears added a single and a stolen base in the inning while Jess Burger (W. Windsor, NJ/W. Windsor-Plainsboro N.) and Kaitlyn McDonald (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) had RBIs. Spears drew a two-out walk in the seventh followed by a single from cather Theresa Souza (Fremont, CA/Tamalpais) to start another rally. Three straight walks pushed across the tying runs for Dickinson, sending the game into extra innings. Porter retired the side in the top of the eighth and the Devils were quickly back on offense. Karrie Brondell (Bloomington, IL/Kennett) drew a lead-off walk to start the inning. McDonald would reach on an error followed by a Spears base-hit to load the bases with one out. Souza lined a hard shot to short to score Brondell with the game-winning run. Souza went 2-for-4 in game two with two runs scored and the game-winning RBI. Spears went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI as well. Speace finished 2-for-4 as well with three RBIs while Burger added two runs and two RBIs, including the game-tying walk in the seventh inning. The Red Devils improve to 16-20 overall and 5-7 in the Centennial Conference. They travel to Ursinus College for the regular season finale on Saturday. Green Terror Takes Two in Centennial Double-Header (Carlisle, PA)- McDaniel College swept a Centennial Conference double-header from Dickinson on Tuesday night. The Green Terror posted a pair of shutouts, winning game one 7-0 and the nightap 6-0. McDaniel did most of the damage in the second inning of game one, using five hits and a Red Devil error to score five runs and take a 6-0 lead. They added another unearned run in the fifth inning for the final of 7-0. Nichol Moeller allowed just four hits and struck out six to earn the win. Jess Burger (W. Windsor, NJ/W. Windsor-Plainsboro N.) went 2-for-2 with a double to lead the Devils in game one. Lisa Biddle (Annandale, VA/Falls Church) and Kaitlyn McDonald (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) each had hits as well. In game two Jessica Ward held the Devils to just three hits while recording four strikeouts. The Green Terror scored two runs in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings to complete the sweep as they improve to 16-16 overall and 4-6 in the Centennial Conference. Biddle tallied one of the Devil hits in game two as well. Karrie Brondell (Bloomington, IL/Kennett) had a single and recorded four strikeouts in a complete game effort. Eve Massa (Ridley Park, PA/Ridley) went 1-for-2. The Red Devils travel to Washington College on Saturday for a 1:00 pm Centennial Conference double-header. Devils Win Third Straight, Fall in Nightcap (York, PA) - The Dickinson College softball team won its third straight game on Thursday afternoon. Following Tuesday's sweep of Gettysburg, the Devils captured game one of a non-conference double-header at York College. The Red Devils posted a 3-1 decision to improve to 14-17 overall. Sophomore pitcher Karrie Brondell (Bloomington, IL/Kennett) had a no-hitter going through five innings in game two. York came alive with four hits and three runs in the bottom of the sixth to capture the nightcap 3-1. The Red Devils scored a pair of unearned runs in the third inning to take the 2-0 lead. Senior Megan Spears (Skowhegan, ME/Skowhegan Area) led-off the inning with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by catcher Theresa Souza (Fremont, CA/Tamalpais). Spears later scored on an error following a base-hit from sophomore Rachel Fleming (Phoenix, AZ/Chaparral). Souza reached on an error with two outs in the seventh and scored as sophomore Eve Massa (Ridley Park, PA/Ridley) doubled down the leftfield line. York pushed one run across in the bottom of the seventh before senior pitcher Lauren Porter (Fairfax, VA/WT Woodson) closed the door with two Spartans stranded on base. Spears led the offense, going 2-for-3 with a run scored while Porter held the Spartans to just five hits while allowing one walk and recording two strikeouts. In game two, the Devils took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning as Brondell singled, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Lisa Biddle (Annandale, VA/Falls Church). It appeared as though that may be enough as Brondell was in total control through the first five innings. York used a pair of base-hits and a bunt to load the bases with one out in the sixth. Becky Wimer scored from third on an error and Shannon Wood drove in a pair of runs with a double to left to put York in front 3-1. Biddle reached in the seventh, but was stranded as Megan Mickles retired the side to earn the win in relief. Brondell did all she could on both sides of the plate, going 3-for-4 and scoring the Devils' lone run while throwing six strong innings and allowing just four hits. The Red Devils are currently 14-18 overall. They return home to face McDaniel College on Tuesday at 5:00 pm. Devils Sweep Gettysburg in Centennial Twin-Bill (Carlisle, PA) - The Dickinson College softball team swept a double-header from Gettysburg on Tuesday afternoon. The Red Devils won the opener 3-1 and posted a 5-3 decision in the nightcap. Gettysburg scored the game's first run in the fifth inning before Dickinson answered with three unearned runs in the top of the seventh inning and held on for the win. Theresa Souza (Freemont, CA/Tamalpais) reached on an error to start the seventh and later scored on another Bullet error to tie the game. Eve Massa (Ridley Park, PA/Ridley) singled and scored on an RBI single by Jess Burger (W. Windsor, NJ/W. Windsor-Plainsboro N.). Burger later scored on error as well and senior pitcher Lauren Porter (Fairfax, VA/WT Woodson) left three Bullets stranded to give Dickinson a key Centennial Conference win. The Bullets struck first again, scoring once in the third inning. Gettysburg pushed across a run in the fourth and another in the fifth to pull within 4-3. Lisa Biddle (Annandale, VA/Falls Church) doubled and pinch-runner Abby Abisinito (Brasilia, Brazil/Philips Exeter Academy) scored on a Megan Spear's (Skowhegan, ME/Skowhegan Area) in the seventh to make the final 5-3. Burger went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in game one and finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs in game two. Dickinson travels to York College on Thursday for a 3:00 pm twin-bill with the Spartans. Garnet Takes Two in Centennial Double-Header (Carlisle, PA) - The Dickinson College softball team dropped a Centennial Conference double-header to visiting Swarthmore on Sunday afternoon. The Garnet Tide posted a 6-0 shutout in game one and claimed a 4-3 decision in the nightcap. Swarthmore used four hits, including a two-RBI single by Kristin Caspar to score four runs in the fourth inning of game one. They added two more in the sixth while Emily Walz pitched a four-hit shutout, recording seven strikeouts. Christina Procacci went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Garnet. Caspar finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one run. Steph Rogan was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs as well. Sophomore Eve Massa (Ridley Park, PA/Ridley) led-off the bottom of the eighth and was hit by a pitch. She moved to second on a single by Fleming and then to third on a sacrifice bunt from Jess Burger (W. Windsor, NJ/WWPN). Massa scored off the bat of Alex Speace (Chester Springs, PA/Bishop Shanahan) to pull the Devils within one with two outs. Brondell popped out to second to end the game with the final score 4-3. Fleming went 2-for-4 in game two. Massa was 1-for-2 with a run scored and played well again in the field at short. Sendelsky went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored in game two. Kelly Siano went 3-for-4 and Katie Gold 2-for-4 with a run scored to lead Swarthmore (15-9, 3-1). The Red Devils (11-17, 1-5 CC) travel to Gettysburg on Tuesday to face the Bullets at 3:30 pm. Red Devils Play Well in Twin-Bill Split (Carlisle, PA) - The Dickinson College softball team split a non-conference double-header with visiting Susquehanna University on Thursday night. The Crusaders won the opener 6-4 in eight innings while the Devils scored runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings to break a 1-1 tie and post a 3-1 victory. Susquehanna took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, scoring two runs on a single by Sara Shaffer. Jess Burger (W. Windsor, NJ/W. Windsor-Plainsboro N.) singled, stole second and scored on a base-hit and error off the bat of Karrie Brondell (Bloomington, IL/Kennett) to put the Devils on the board in the third. Brondell later scored off an RBI single from Lisa Biddle (Annandale, VA/Falls Church) to tie the game 2-2 at the end of the third. The Crusaders pulled in front again in the top of the seventh before junior Alex Speace (Chester Springs, PA/Bishop Shanahan) singled and scored as Biddle reached on an error to send the game into extra innings. Susquehanna briefly tied the game in the top of the fourth, but the Devils answered immediately as Massa tripled down the right-field line to score first-year Abby Abisinito (Brasilia, Brazil/Philips Exeter Academy), who reached on a single. Speace doubled in the fifth and scored on an RBI single from Brondell, and the Devils held for the final two innings for a 3-1 decision. Brondell earned the win as well with a complete game effort. She held Susquehanna to just five hits while walking two batters on the day. Massa played another solid game at short, recording six outs in each game. Sophomore Rachel Fleming (Phoenix, AZ/Chaparral) turned in a strong performance in centerfield while Spears and sophomore Theresa Souza (Fremont, CA/Tamalpais) played well behind the plate. The Red Devils are 11-15 overall on the season while Susquehanna moves to 14-6. The Red Devils are home again on Saturday, hosting Swarthmore at 1:00 pm. Devils Rally Late to Split With Muhlenberg (Carlisle, PA) - The Dickinson College softball team split a Centennial Conference double-header with Muhlenberg on Tuesday evening. The Mules tallied three unearned runs in the fourth inning for the only scoring in game one. The Mules combined four base-hits with a pair of Dickinson errors in the inning to secure a 3-0 win in the opener. Game two had a similar start with Muhlenberg taking a 3-0 lead in the second, scoring three unearned runs, including a two-run, two-out homerun by Jennifer Rosenthal. Kaitlyn McDonald (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) reached on an error, scoirng a pair of unearned runs to cut the lead to 3-2. Muhlenberg added yet another unearned run in the top of the six to lead 4-2 as they headed into the bottom of the inning. Pinch-hitter Theresa Souza (Fremont, CATamalpais) drew a one-out walk which later allowed Carolyn Shainheit (Hainesport, NJ/Rancocas Valley Regional) to re-enter and score on a Jess Burger (W. Windsor, NJ/W. Windsor-Plainsboro N.) base-hit in the gap to left-center. Lisa Biddle (Annandale, VA/Falls Church) lined a shot off the glove of the Muhlenberg third baseman to score Burger and Rachel Fleming (Phoenix, AZ/Chaparral), who reached on a bunt single, and put the Devils in front 5-4. Senior pitcher Lauren Porter (Fairfax, VA/WT Woodson) came on in relief to earn the win. Sophomore Karrie Brondell (Bloomington, Il/Kennett) pitched five and two-thirds solid innings in the start, allowing just seven hits. Porter also stepped in to draw a two-out, full-count walk in the sixth to keep the rally alive. Eve Massa (Ridley Park, PA/Ridley) moved over to shortstop to replace an injured Kelly LaRue (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington) and did a solid job in the middle infield, along with Alex Speace (Chester Springs, PA/Bishop Shanahan) at second. The Red Devils improve to 10-14 overall and 1-3 in the Centennial Conference. Muhlenberg stands at 8-14 and 1-3 in the CC. The Red Devils are home again on Thursday, hosting Susquehanna at 5:00 pm. 'Fords Take Two From Devils in CC Twin-Bill (Haverford, PA) - The Dickinson College softball team dropped a Centennial Conference double-header at Haverford College on Saturday. The 'Fords claimed a 3-1 decision in the opener and posted an 8-0 shutout in the nightcap. Samantha Fontinell scattered four hits before Nora Spriggs earned a one-inning save, and Becky Garibotto allowed five hits and no runs in the nightcap, as both Haverford first-year hurlers earned victories in their Centennial Conference debuts Saturday. Erica Davies was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Sarah Nagle, Lindsey Sullivan (RBI), Allison Frank (run) and Spriggs (RBI double) each had one hit for Fontinell (run). Sullivan was 3-for-4 with two runs and five runs batted in, including her bases-loaded double that ended the game with the Red Devils (9-13, 0-2) by rule with two outs in the bottom of the sixth. Devils Drop Pair at Lebanon Valley (Anneville, PA) - The Dickinson College softball team dropped a non-conference double-header at Lebanon Valley on Thursday afternoon. The Dutchwomen posted a pair of shutouts, winning game one 5-0 and the nightcap 8-0. Alisa Albers held the Devils to just five hits in the opener while Jenn Roberts tossed a four-hitter in game two. Dickinson trailed by just one run entering the bottom of the sixth inning. A pair of doubles, including a two-RBI shot by Audrey Benner stretched the margin to the eventual final of 5-0. Devils Split Double-Header at Messiah (Grantham, PA) - The Dickinson College softball team split a non-conference double-header at Messiah College on Tuesday, winning game one 4-3 and dropping the nightcap 5-4. The Red Devils scored three runs in the second and added another in the seventh to take a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the final inning. Messiah pulled within one on a two-run homer by Jessica DeBoer. The Red Devils shut the door and held on for the win to improve to 9-8 on the season. Alex Speace (Chester Springs, PA/Bishop Shanahan) went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in game one. Lisa Biddle (Annandale, VA/Falls Church) also went 2-for-4 with a double and one run while Kaitlyn McDonald (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. McDonald led the way at the plate in the second game, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs, two doubles and one run scored. Devils Sweep Twinbill at Catholic (Washington, DC) - The Dickinson College softball team swept a pair of games from Catholic University on Saturday afternoon. The Red Devils won the opener 8-5 and escaped with a 5-4 decision in the nightcap. Sophomore Rachel Fleming (Phoenix, AZ/Chaparral) led-off game one with a single and later scored to give Dickinson an early 1-0 lead. Catholic answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 3-1 lead. The Cardinals added another run in the second before the Devils cut the deficit to 4-3 with two unearned runs in top of the third. Catholic pushed across another run in the fourth to lead 5-3. The Red Devil bats came alive in the sixth as they scored five runs on four hits, including a two-RBI single from sophomore Lisa Biddle (Annandale, VA/Falls Church). Sophomore Karrie Brondell (Bloomington, IL/Kennett) earned the win while Porter came in relief for the save as the Devils improve to 8-8 on the season. Biddle finished the game 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Brondell had a great day at the plate, also going 3-for-4. Burger was 3-for-3 with an RBI, two runs scored and a walk while McDonald doubled in the fifth and scored a run. The Red Devils travel to Messiah College on Tuesday for a 3:00 start. Devils Drop Pair to Greyhounds (Carlilse, PA)- The Dickinson College softball team dropped a double-header to Moravian in its home opener on Thursday afternoon. The Greyhounds captured the opener 10-2 and claimed the nightcap 10-6. Moravian took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game one and tallied four in the third and five in the top of the seventh to secure the win. The Devils pushed two runs across in the bottom of the seventh on a two-run triple by sophomore Rachel Fleming (Phoenix, AZ/Chaparral). Jess Burger (W. Windsor, NJ/W. Windsor-Plainsboro N.) led off the inning with a single and stole second while Carlolyn Shainheit (Hainesport, NJ/Rancocas Valley Regional) drew a walk before scoring on the triple by Fleming. Senior Meagan Hennessy earned the win, scattering five hits and striking out eight. Kelly Santry went 4-for-4 with three RBIs while Jordan Oplinger drove in two runs and scored twice while going 3-for-4 at the plate. The Greyhounds took advantage of a six-run fourth inning to pull in front 9-2. They added another in the top of the fifth before the Devils answered with three in the bottom to make the score 10-5 at the end of five innings. Dickinson tacked on another in the bottom of the seventh to make the final 10-6. Junior infielder Alex Speace (Chester Springs, PA/Bishop Shanahan) went 2-for-3 and scored twice in game two. Sophomore Lisa Biddle (Annandale, VA/Falls Church) drove in a pair of runs with a double in the fifth. Karrie Brondell (Bloomington, IL/Kennett) and Kaitlyn McDonald (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) each added RBI singles as well in game two. Oplinger drove in two and scored two in the nightcap as well, going 2-for-3 with a double. Centerfielder Erica Klepeisz went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and Sheri Bieniek was 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and one run scored. Kristie Pellicani earned the win in game two, allowing just two earned runs while striking out six. Moravian improves to 11-3 overall while the Devils slip to 6-8 on the season. softball team suffered a pair of losses in its season opener at Shenandoah
University on Thursday. Sophomore Rachel Fleming (Phoenix, AZ/Chapparal) led the offense in game one, going 2-for-4 while classmate Theresa Souza (Fremont, CA/Tamalpais) had a double in the sixth inning but was stranded on third. Junior Alex Speace (Chester Springs, PA/Bishop Shanahan) had three straight singles in game two, finishing 3-for-4. Sophomore Jess Burger (W. Windsor, NJ/W. Windsor-Plainsboro N.) drove in one run with an rbi double and scored another after reaching on an error in the sixth inning. Senior Lauren Porter (Fairfax, VA/WT Woodson) recorded four strikeouts, scattered four hits and allowed one unearned run in her first start of the season. She came in relief in game two, surrendering one hit in two and one third innings. Karrie Brondell (Bloomington, IL/Kennett) suffered the loss in game two. The Red Devils are next in action on March 12th in Fort Myers, Florida when they face Medaille College.
