Devils Show Well at Blue
Jay Invitational (Elizabethtown, PA) – The Dickinson College men's tennis team turned in some top-notch performances at the 2006 Blue Jay Fall Men's Invitational. Senior Eric Schroeder (Acton, MA/Governor Dummer Academy) went 5-0 to win the Flight C Singles tournament. He defeated Lebanon Valley's Matt Grodzinski 6-0, 6-4 in the final. Schroeder joined Jackson Parmenter (Durham, CT/Xavier) to capture the doubles title with a 4-0 run. They topped the team from LVC, 8-3 in the final. First-year Hunter Holbrook (New York, NY/Trevor Day School) advanced to the finals of the A Flight Singles before falling to Eric Vargo, also from LVC, (6-1, 6-1). First-year Matt Wood (Chatham, NY/Chatham) dropped a semi-final match in Flight C singles to Grodzinski while classmate Andrew Kastner (Seattle, WA) advanced to the semifinals of the B Flight before falling to eventual champion Brok Walker of Elizabethtown. Conference Semifinal (Carlisle, PA) – The Dickinson College men's tennis team earned the doubles point, but fell 6-1 to Washington College in the semifinals of the Centennial Conference Championship Tournament on Saturday. Jackson Parmenter (Durham, CT/Xavier) and Eric Schroeder (Acton, MA/Gov. Dummer Academy) captured the second doubles flight 8-6 while senior Rob Isaacs (Kingston, PA/Wyoming Seminary) and junior Brent Shoemaker (Marion, MA/Old Rochester Regional) claimed an 8-5 decision at number three. The 14th-ranked Shoremen swept the singles matches to advance to Sunday's final. They will face Johns Hopkins, who defeated Haverford College 4-3 in the other semifinal. Devils Down Diplomats to Secure Playoff Bid (Carlisle, PA) – The Dickinson College men's tennis team defeated Franklin & Marshall College 5-2 on Wednesday afternoon. The Red Devils earn the final playoff spot in the first-ever Centennial Conference team championship. Dickinson earned the doubles point with wins in the second and third flights. Whit McFarlane (U.S. Virgin Islands) and Rich Rosenthal (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) cruised to an 8-1 win in the number two spot while senior Rob Isaacs (Kingston, PA/Wyoming Seminary) and junior Brent Shoemaker (Marion, MA/Old Rochester Regional) captured an 8-6 decision at number three. The Diplomats captured the top two singles flight before the Devils swept the final four flights and the match. Rosenthal and Shoemaker posted singles wins in the four and six positions, respectively, while first-year Trevor Heck (Pittsburgh, PA/Sewickley Academy) and junior Eric Schroeder (Acton, MA/Gov. Dummer Academy) captured the third and fifth flights. The Blue Jays captured all nine flights to improve to 8-6 overall and 4-2 in the CC. The Red Devils slip to 13-5 and 4-3 in the conference. for Seventh Sweep (Westminster, MD) – The Dickinson College men's tennis team won all nine courts to post a 7-0 Centennial Conference win over McDaniel on Wednesday. The Green Terror battled at number one doubles and singles, but fell in straight sets in the remaining singles flights. Eric Schroeder (Acton, MA/Gov. Dummer Academy) and Brent Shoemaker (Marion, MA/Old Rochester Regional) posted identical 6-0, 6-1 victories at number five and number six singles. Rich Rosenthal (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) was a 6-2, 6-2 winner in the third singles flight. The Red Devils improve to 12-4 overall and 3-2 in the Centennial Conference. 7-0 (Chestertown, MD) - The Washington College men's tennis team, ranked 20th in Division III and ninth in the Atlantic South region, defeated visiting Dickinson, 7-0, in a Centennial Conference match this afternoon at Schottland Tennis Center. The Shoremen, who won their ninth straight match, improved to 12-3 overall and 6-0 in conference play with the win, while the Red Devils fell to 11-4 and 2-2 with the loss. The win marked the sixth shutout of the season for the Red Devils. Senior Rob Isaacs (Kingston, PA/Wyoming Seminary) won a tight match at number one singles (7-6(5), 7-5) as the Red Devils swept the singles matches in straight sets. The Devils won all nine courts, taking all three doubles matches as well. The Red Devil men swept the doubles matches and claimed all but the number one singles positions in straight sets. The 'Fords swept the singles matches and claimed the doubles point with wins at the number one and two spots. Senior Rob Isaacs (Kingston, PA/Wyoming Seminary) played well for the Red Devils, falling in the top singles position 6-3, 7-5. He joined Brent Shoemaker (Marion, MA/Old Rochester Regional) to capture third doubles 9-7. Eric Schroeder (Acton, MA/Governor Dummer Academy) and Jackson Parmenter (Durham, CT/Xavier) also played well at number one doubles, but fell 8-5. in Hilton Head (Hilton Head, SC) – The Dickinson College men's tennis team dropped its first spring break match to Georgetown (KY) 8-1, but responded with five straight wins to improve to 5-1 on the season. The Devils dropped a tight match to Methodist College 4-3 to return home 5-2 overall.

Senior Rob Issacs (Kingston, PA/Wyoming Seminary) won the Flight B Final, defeating teammate Whit McFarlane (U.S. Virgin Islands) 4-6, 6-4, 11-9. Two Red Devils met in the Flight C Final as well with Andy Carroll (Dover, DE/St. Andrew's) posting a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Brent Shoemaker (Marion, MA). Rob Dickinson (Richmond, VA/Trinity Episcopal) advanced to the final of Flight A before falling to Wilkes' Kyle Ungvarsky 6-4, 4-6, 12-10. In doubles, Flight A featured an all-Dickinson final as Jackson Parmenter (Durham, CT/Xavier) and Eric Schroeder (Acton, MA/Gov. Dummer Academy) defeated Toni Bujas (Zagreb, Croatia/Western Reserve Academy) and Isaacs 8-5.
