Men's Lacrosse

 

Dave Webster enters his fifth season as the Head Men's Lacrosse Coach and Assistant Athletic Director. A 1988 graduate of Dickinson, Webster was brought back to Carlisle to begin a new era of Dickinson lacrosse. He had spent the previous three seasons as the head lacrosse coach at Franklin & Marshall College.

Prior to taking over at F&M, Webster was hired to start a varsity team at Marymount University in 1991. He spent seven years there building a highly regarded NCAA Division III program, earning Capital Athletic Conference Coach of the Year honors in 1994 and 1997.

In his first season at Dickinson, he led the Red Devils to their best season since 1994 while also providing one of the best defensive efforts in recent history allowing just 10.0 goals per game. Last season the Red Devils matched the school record set in 2003 with nine wins, making its second straight appearance in the Centennial Conference playoffs.

Webster enjoyed a fulfilling collegiate experience at Dickinson while an undergrad. He played four years of both football and lacrosse, and served as captain of the lacrosse team for three years. In addition, he was an editor of the school newspaper and was involved in several campus honorary groups. Webster earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1988, and graduated with honors.

Brandon Childs joins the Dickinson College staff for his first season with the Red Devils. Childs was previously an assistant lacrosse coach at Lynchburg College where his team captured the 2005 Old Dominion Conference Championship. His primary responsibilities in addition to on-field coaching duties included direction of academic programs for the team, recruiting and coordination of scouting opponents. He also served as Lynchburg's Equipment Manager for the past year.

Coach Childs earned a B.A. in Sport Management from Lynchburg in 2004. He was a standout lacrosse player, serving as team captain for two years and earning All-America honors as a junior and senior. In addition, he was named Scholar All-American following his senior year and was a three-time All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference selection during his career.

Sean Murphy joined the Red Devil staff as an assistant for both football and lacrosse in the fall of 2003. He spent the previous three years at Bowdoin College coaching football, lacrosse and strength and conditioning. A 2001 graduate of Plymouth State College, Murphy is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.

The Eliot, Maine native was a four-year letter winner in football and lacrosse, earning First-Team All-Conference honors in 1998 and 1999. He was also named All-New England, Football Gazette All-East Region and an Honorable Mention All-American in 1999. In lacrosse, he was First-Team All-League as a senior tri-captain.

Coach Murphy resides in Carlisle with his wife and two children.

Chris Schellhorn returns to the Dickinson College staff for his fourth season following an outstanding career at Franklin & Marshall. The Wilton, Connecticut native played three seasons for Coach Webster at F&M before Webster returned to his alma mater.

Schellhorn was a 2002 first-team and 2001 second-team All- Centennial Conference selection, and a 2002 ECAC Division III South First-team All-Star. Schellhorn was a four year starter on defense, and captained the Diplomats for two seasons.

Schellhorn was named the team's Defensive MVP twice, leading the Diplomats to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Region Championship in 2002, marking F&M's first post-season title since 1990. As a Senior, he earned All-America honors in 2002, and was selected to play in the USILA/STX North-South Senior All- Star Game.

He is currently attending law school at the Widener School of Law in Harrisburg.

Steve Welsh joins the Dickinson College staff following and outstanding playing career at Centennial Conference member Franklin & Marshall College.

A two-time All-Centennial Conference selection with first team honors in 2004 and 2005, Welsh was named the 2005 Centennial Conference Player of the Year as he became the first F&M player to earn the honor. He also earned Honorable Mention All-America honors last season.

The team and Centennial Conference’s leading scorer in 2005 with 20 goals and 45 assists for 65 points, Welsh concluded his career with 84 goals and 112 assists 196 points as he ranks second in assists and fifth in points in school history.
