Craig Hanson Named Head Baseball Coach at Dickinson
May 25, 2006
(Carlisle,
PA) - Director of Athletics, Dr. Les Poolman, announced the hiring of
Craig Hanson as the new head baseball coach at Dickinson College. Hanson
joins the Red Devil coaching staff following a two-year stint at Davidson
College.
In his second season Hanson stepped into
the role of top assistant at Davidson after helping the offense explode
into the national rankings. Hanson is a 2003 graduate
of Middlebury College in Vermont where he received his degree in psychology.
He was a four-year member of the baseball team as a first baseman, designated
hitter and pitcher. During the summers of his collegiate years, Hanson
served as an assistant coach and hitting instructor for the American
Legion team, comprised of 15-18 year olds, in Addison County, Vt.
After graduation, Hanson was hired as the
director of baseball operations for Stanford University. There he was
an integral member of the Cardinal team that advanced to the NCAA Tournament,
plus coordinated certain aspects of recruiting, assisted in running
practices and managed field duties.
Hanson also provided individual hitting instruction and was responsible
for electronically charting pitch sequence and elevation during games.
Hanson inherits a young but talented Red
Devil squad. The team expects to return its entire starting line-up
from 2006, losing just one senior to graduation. Dickinson finished
the 2006 campaign 14-21-2 overall and 7-9-2 in the Centennial Conference.
