Fall 2008 offerings for seminar and topics courses:
380 Topics: Representation, Text, Writing: Contemporary Spanish and Latin American Women's Literature
3:00-4:15 TR
The selection of twentieth and twenty-first-century novels, films, and theoretical texts chosen for this course will refine students' knowledge of Spanish and Latin American history and the role that women have played in shaping historic memory. We will examine key issues such as the politics of gender and sexual identity, "gender trouble," and écriture féminine. Many of the works for the course represent the act of writing itself, and we will subject this phenomenon to critical scrutiny.
410 Seminar: Literature and Ideas in Revolutionary America
1:30-4:30 W
This seminar focuses on the print culture of Spanish America during the Age of Revolution (approximately 1750-1850). As we study texts produced during this period, strong emphasis will be placed on both historical context and the transatlantic nature of ideas and texts.
