Like energy consumption issues, the College's water usage policies have been scrutinized consistently as we attempt to be as efficient as possible.

1995

Water over-use was discussed


1996


Student group EarthNow recommends installing low flow shower and toilet fixtures in dorms


2002


Water reduction contest held, Treehouse declared the winners


2005


Dickinson holds first ever Green Devil Challenge in the spring semester, a competition designed to decrease water usage through challenging academic and administrative buildings to reduce water and energy usage by 15%. Prize is $10 declining balance. Schuman and Strayer house are declared the winners.


2006


Green Devil Challenge is continued, prize changes to $10 declining balance or $12 to Appalachian Whole Foods or Pomfret Street Used Books.

2007

Dickinson begins to install faucet aerators on all campus faucets, reducing them to a .5 gallon per minute rate of flow.

Facilities begins to replace washing machines with front-loading models during the summer, cutting water used to wash clothing in half.
