Dickinson SAVES is the latest incarnation of the Commission on the Environment, which began in 1991 as a Presidentially-appointed committee.
In 2006, the organization got a new name and a new mission:
"to work together as an alliance of faculty, staff, students,
and alumnicommitted to improving Dickinson College's
environmental footprint, and make informed recommendations
about how to do so. Dickinson SAVES will seek to integrate
environmental accountability, both qualitative and quantitative,
into all aspects of the College's present and future activities
and plans. Additionally, Dickinson SAVES is dedicated to creating
an environmentally aware community of engaged citizens, and
promoting this Defining Characteristic of the College.”
Membership in SAVES is open to anyone! Meetings will resume again in Fall '07! Have a great summer!
Current Initiatives
Focus the Nation
This subcommittee of Dickinson SAVES is organizing our involvement in Focus the Nation, a country-wide event taking place on January 31, 2008. On this date, K-12 schools, as well as colleges and universities, will organize educational and co-curricular events pertaining to climate change, and how we can ameliorate it. So far, we're in the process of lining up speakers and creating a plan of action for what our own Focus event will look like. For more information about what other Focus events are going on, check out this link.
Greenhouse Gas Inventory
As part of a crucial step to achieving climate neutrality, members of Dickinson SAVES are conducting our very first Greenhouse Gas Inventory! We'll let you know the results once they're calculated.
