To search for performance studies classes on Banner Self-Service:

1. Click on the Class Schedule Search link from the Registrar's web page or from the Course Selection Menu on Banner Self-Service.
2. Select Fall 2008 from the drop-down menu and click Submit.
3. Select Music from the Subject listing.
4. Select Performance Studies from the Part of Term listing.
5. Press Class Search.
6. This will return a listing of all of the performance studies classes offered.


 

Students who have taken previous performance studies classes at Dickinson:

Additional Fee Required

1. You will enter the next appropriate level for your instrument via Banner Self-Service along with all of your other class requests for the Fall 2008 during the Course Request Period. To determine the appropriate level:

2. The number of credits for the class requested will default to .5 credits. You must have the professor's permission to register for 1.0 credit (if you are taking a full hour) once the class is entered on Banner Self-Service. If approved, the professor will contact the Registrar's Office to request the change to 1.0 credit.

3. The steps above can also be completed during the Schedule Adjustment and Add/Drop Periods.

4. All changes to performance studies classes must be done via Banner Self-Service no later than 11:59 p.m. EST, Sunday, August 31, 2008.


 

Students new to performance studies classes at Dickinson:

IMPORTANT ADVICE:
- All first-semester students in voice must register for MUSIC 111-02 Voice Class; special accommodations for those intending to declare a vocal performance major apply. Please contact Prof. Helding helding@dickinson.edu for more information.
- We strongly suggest Music 115 Fundamentals of Music and/or MUSIC 111-01 Piano Class for those students with no prior formal musical training or experience.

1. Contact the instructor for the instrument you would like to study or the Music Department Chair (Blake Wilson) as soon as possible. For a list of instructors, click here.

2. After contacting your instructor he/she will place a registration override on your record, so that you can enter the appropriate class on Banner Self-Service. The following is a list of entry-level performance studies classes:

FEES & SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION:

There is an extra fee for performance studies courses, except MUSC 111 (see the Current Fee Schedule under Other Fees). For all Music majors the half-hour fee is waived, and for all majors with a performance studies emphasis the full-hour fee is waived, provided the following conditions are met:

1. The student must be a declared Music major.
2. The student must have completed one course in the core music curriculum, AND be pre-registered for a second core course in music.

There is NO REFUND of the extra fee if a student withdraws from the course after the add/drop period.

A certain number of Performance Studies scholarships are available each semester, and these are made through the student's studio teacher.

To find Music Department ensembles using Banner Self-Service, when entering your search criteria be sure to select Music as the Subject and the Part of Term called Music Department Ensemble.
