Summer Scholar Award

 > Types of Support

What is a Summer Scholar Award?:  The College may confer these awards in order to support and recognize superior individual scholarly or creative projects. Awards ranging from $3,500 to $5,000 are granted as stipends or for project expenses.

What is an appropriate use of a Summer Scholar Award?: These awards are granted for distinguished individual summer scholarly or creative projects that will lead to publicly presented and publishable results. Please note that these awards are not given for teaching projects or for professional development projects.

What criteria are used to make the Awards?:  The R&D committee ranks the applications according to the following criteria:

  1. Quality: Projects must have high intrinsic value and intellectual or creative merit and have the potential for making a significant contribution to the applicant's field.
  2. Feasibility: Projects must have goals which can be achieved during the summer.

Projects may be by applications from individual scholars or may be selected by the R&D committee from the pool of summer scholarship project grant applications. Faculty are encouraged to apply whether or not their projects have expenses which are eligible for regular R&D funding.

Please be sure to check for proposal deadlines--click on the Deadlines link on the sidebar.
