Firearms,
Explosives and Weaponry.
The possession or use of
firearms, explosives, other weapons (including, but not limited to, batons/impact
weapons, pneumatic pistols and rifles, edged and chemical weapons), dangerous
chemicals, or objects intended to be perceived as explosives, firearms, weapons
or chemicals, in or upon any College property (owned or otherwise controlled
by the College) is strictly prohibited. Furthermore, the discharge of any weapon on the Dickinson campus,
or in the Borough of Carlisle, is illegal and poses an obvious threat to
the lives and safety to members
of the College community. The only exception to the prohibition on the possession
and use of firearms and other weapons is for properly appointed law enforcement personnel in accordance with course and
scope of their professional duties.
Firearms, ammunition and
other weapons used by students for hunting or sporting purposes may be brought
to campus, but must be stored with the Department
of Public Safety, 162 Dickinson
Ave, Carlisle, PA. These items
must be removed from campus at the end of the academic year. Any weapon not
retrieved by the owner, and any weapons confiscated by Public Safety pursuant
to this policy will not be returned and will be destroyed.
Visitors and guests (non-law
enforcement personnel) who bring
firearms or other weapons with them to campus are to secure these items with
the Department of Public Safety
upon their arrival for the duration of their visit.
Law enforcement personnel are requested to contact and inform
the Department of Public Safety
of their activities on campus upon their arrival.
Drug and Alcohol Policy
Dickinson College
has programs and policies in place to support a drug-free environment. One may obtain a
complete copy of the College’s Drug and Alcohol Policy by contacting Human
Resource Services or the Dean of Students as applicable. In
short, the unlawful possession, use and/or sale of illicit drugs, associated
paraphernalia or alcohol is strictly prohibited.
All members of the College community have a responsibility
to acquaint themselves with the laws and regulations of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Borough ordinances
regulating the possession and/or use of alcohol and drugs in addition to
the specific policies governing the possession and use within the College.
Any violation of these
policies or of local, state or federal laws regarding illicit drugs or alcohol
will result in appropriate disciplinary action. In
addition to College sanctions, criminal charges will be filed as appropriate,
and the College will cooperate fully with outside law enforcement agencies.
If a person has concerns
about drug or alcohol use - their own or that of others -they may want to
consult with the College’s Human Resource Services - EAP counselors, the Department of Public Safety or Student Life counselors.
