Psychology Department faculty involve students in research in a variety of contexts. Students do for-credit, independent research under faculty supervision (Psychology 495 and 550). Students work as assistants in faculty laboratories. Some students are paid assistants/collaborators on funded faculty projects, both during the academic year and during the summer. Much collaborative faculty-student research is presented at national and regional conferences.
If you are interested in conducting research with a faculty member, you should first acquaint yourself with each professor's area of interest. Once you have identified a research focus that interests you, email the professor and ask her or him to discuss options for research opportunities with you. You will want to contact the professor with whom you are interested in working a semester before you would like to get involved in research.
