Eric is at the pinnacle of tubadom: in both the classical and jazz worlds. He holds the Principal Tubist chairs in two regional orchestras and is a 1999 “Jazz Ambassador” for the Kennedy Center USIA Program with his Hot House Jazz Trio. He is an active, long-standing Roster Artist for the PA Council on the Arts and he recently became available through Penn PAT.

Eric’s other passion is playing Lakota flute. He has been invited to play in spiritual settings, weddings and art galleries.

Eric has single-handedly established two musical traditions in Carlisle. He hosts an Octubafest in conjunction with a downtown Arts Festival each year. He created the Grand Sousa Concert: each summer, neighboring community bands join together to perform a park concert in the style of Sousa.

In his own words:

I did undergraduate study with Dr. Donald Stanley, Dr. Gary Bird and studied extensively with Dave Fedderly of the Baltimore Symphony. I am leader of and tubist for Hot House, a Dixie/Swing Jazz Band, Principal Tubist with Harrisburg and Lancaster Symphonies and Tubist for the Chesapeake Brass Quintet.

I believe an artist’s first responsiblity is to communicate with their own imagination. I recommend books by Sueta, Borgdoni, Rochut, Tyrell, Hering, Pottag and Andruad, Hal Leonard’s Advanced Method for Tuba, orchestral band excerpts, and solos.

I expect you to practice daily and follow your personal inspiration. We will work to make your wind more efficient and explore the art of sound. I will work with you to establish and achieve your goals.

There are a variety of ensembles at Dickinson College. I organize Octubafest and host it each fall. You will be invited to participate in the large tuba ensemble’s Grand Finale and perhaps the Keystone Tuba Ensemble.
