PURPOSE
The purpose of the Majors Committee is to represent the interests and needs of history majors to the faculty in matters of history courses, the major, and the department.
MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS
Members are chosen from applicants who have taken at least one history course and who have shown an interest in history. Usually seven or fewer applications are received and all are accepted. A member who misses more than two meetings a semester may be suspended until he/she has shown renewed interest in or commitment to the Committee.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Members are expected to do the following:
- Help administer faculty evaluations at the end of each semester
- Meet with candidates for positions in the History department and provide members' assessment of candidates to the department
- Provide assessments to the department chair when history faculty undergo evaluation
- Organize various functions for majors, i.e., career workshops with the Career office, History alums, and History majors; session with prospective History majors prior to Academic Open House
