One of the best I have been to in over 10 programs in the last ten years.

This was one of the best conferences I have ever attended. I learned so much! It will completely change the way I approach this subject. I cannot wait to get back to school to teach it!

I have been to several NEH and other workshops and this was by far the best.

The director(s) and the visiting faculty were some of the best I have ever experienced in an NEH workshop. They were knowledgeable and engaging. There were many instances where I wish they could have spoken longer.

This workshop has helped me view this subject matter and material with fresh eyes. I have learned how I can use this material in an interdisciplinary way. It has informed my teaching greatly.

Dickinson College was great. The rooms were the best dorm rooms I have seen--truly. Access to the library and its resources was excellent.

The speakers chosen for this workshop were excellent. They are scholars well-respected in their fields and welcomed discourse and observations from the participants. The director and assistant director of this program were outstanding. They were available not only during the sessions, but also after hours. The participants were obviously well-chosen to represent educators from all across the country and in a variety of disciplines.

This was one of the best Landmarks I have attended. I greatly enjoyed the field trips and have discovered new ways to teach about the Underground Railroad.

Every aspect of the Institute was first class. I will integrate what I learned immediately into my curriculum.

This was a great course and it has helped me fill in a key whole in my curriculum. I would strongly recommend this course to anyone teaching American history.

The course was well balanced with a nice mix of noted authors, field trips, wider class discussions, and hands-on activities.

Dickinson College was a top notch location both with its central location and with its facilities. The staff was friendly and helpful, the dining hall was great!

This workshop was one of the most productive I've attended. Matt was very skilled at keeping the focus on information we can actually use in the classroom. Overall, I believe I learned an enormous amount of information that will improve my teaching.

The landmark sites were a mix of actual buildings and sites that were no longer "there" - I believe that it made us all aware of the importance of preservation and gave us a more accurate picture of the depth and breadth of the Underground Railroad. AWESOME! Dickinson has a beautiful campus and excellent research facilities.

All of the instructors, teachers, and professors were very engaged and helpful to all the participants. The visiting authors gave excellent presentations on their very appropriate works. My teaching colleagues were great to work with. The program was very well organized. Class discussions were interesting and well directed.

This was a terrific workshop experience! Living quarters were good, and the food was excellent. All of the speakers were very engaging and personable, willing to answer questions and explain things more thoroughly. Trips afield helped us understand in greater detail the significant events that took place at each spot, and guest lecturers shed additional light on each spot as we stood on site. I have a much clearer understanding of a topic I thought I knew quite well already.

The Dickinson College staff was exceptionally cordial and helpful. Dorms were clean on arrival and cleaned by housekeeping staff throughout the week. Computers were easily accessible as was the campus library, and Dickinson staff helped us navigate programs available only through the college itself. Everyone connected to the college and/or workshop seemed eager to meet attendees needs/wishes.

The Landmarks of the Underground Railroad NEH Workshop was outstanding!!! I already plan to use one of our major resources (Bordewich's Bound For Canaan) as a text/guide for my AP students through my course next year. This workshop will fundamentally change my approach to teaching the institution of slavery as an element of American history, and my thread of the development of antislavery efforts in the coming of the Civil War. Professor Pinsker and his staff made a difficult, convoluted topic far more accessible than any textbook, and I left the workshop with numerous ideas of how I can seamlessly work in new material to a preexisting course structure. Thank you!!!!

The workshop was very well organized. Many myths were debunked and much time was attributed towards the production of lesson plans for the classroom. I came away with lots of ideas for incorporating the workshop information into my teaching.

The director was excellent, the visiting faculty were engaging, my colleagues were involved. The topics were timely with current research, discussion was informed and sometimes passionate.

From the moment you were transported from the airport to the campus you knew this would be an experience you would not forget. I had never heard of Christiana the experiences of the people, the effects of the events which occurred there and were felt on both sides of the Mason-Dixon line need to be taught. Without my involvement in the Landmarks of American History program another important signal event in American History would be ignored, this will be covered in the classroom since it is not in any of the texts I have. By the end of the week I was overwhelmed by the amount of knowledge I had gained and the ideas that were suggested by all the participants in the seminar.
