After Hours Health Care Advice
A new service for students is being provided that will enable students to get health care advice when the Health Center is closed. The Center has collaborated with Nurse Response, an after hours nationally accredited service that provides advice on medical matters using nationally accepted triage guidelines. Students can call a toll free number any time the Health Center is closed. This service will provide the most appropriate advice given the situation, which may be to administer self-care and call for an appointment at the Health Center the next day, or go to the emergency department. If an emergency department visit were recommended, the Dickinson College Department of Public Safety would be called to arrange transportation. The Center gets printed reports faxed the next day so the staff can follow-up with any student who called in. This service will cut down on unnecessary emergency department visits, which will decrease expenses for students and their families.
