Dickinson College Geology Department Celebrates 50th Anniversary

On December 9, 2007, the Geology department recognized the 50th anniversary of the inception of the major.  In a special faculty meeting, Prof. Bill Vernon witnessed the historic vote.  This spring the Department marked this auspicious occasion with a weekend celebration.  Festivities were held the weekend of April 11-13.

The anniversary celebration turned out to be a smashing success. The weather was gorgeous for the afternoon field trip. We had roughly sixty people join us for dinner Saturday night and Professors Emeriti Potter and Vernon gave a talk that covered the history of the department (slide show posted below). Anyone who took photos during the weekend is encouraged to send them to deanr@dickinson.edu and we'll try post them for everyone as they come in.

A newsletter will be sent out shortly detailing the evolution of the department and providing updates on the Geology Alumni. It will be posted here as soon as it's completed.

Alumni: Please take a minute to fill out our Alumni Survey to update your information for inclusion in the newsletter.
