Rebecca Harker '07
As an Engage the World Fellow, Dickinson provided funding for me to intern with Judge Cherry in Harrisburg.  Through this internship I was not only able to learn a lot about what goes on inside a courtroom and behind the scenes in courtroom, but I was also able to talk to many attorneys about their work and education.  Judge Cherry spoke with me every day about my experiences and answered all my questions about the various legal proceedings.  Throughout my time in Harrisburg I was able to sit in on juvenile court, adoption hearings, lottery hearings, criminal court and even a few criminal trials.  My experiences in the courtroom were invaluable as they clarified many of the things that I had learned in my Criminal Procedure class, also taught my Judge Cherry, and allowed me to see first-hand the traits that make lawyers most successful.  This internship helped to confirm my passion for the law and cement my decision to attend law school after graduation, as well as supply me with an excellent recommendation from a judge!
