My Engage the World Fellowship enabled me to complete a summer internship in Harrisburg, PA with the Pennsylvania Family Institute, a non-partisan research and education organization devoted to promoting traditional values and pro-family policies in government. As a Political Science major, I greatly enjoyed the opportunity to put my education into action by experiencing first-hand the fundamentals of coalition building, policy making, and lobbying. Prior to my internship, I had never fully appreciated the extent to which non-profit political organizations affect the legislative process. Having the chance to impact state policy on behalf of Pennsylvania families has made me even more excited to pursue a career in issue advocacy in the future.
