Intern / Correspondence Manager
Executive Office of Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr.
Office of Homeland Security

From May to August, with the help of an ETW grant to cover travel and living expenses and to provide a modest stipend, my duties at the Governor's Office of Homeland Security spanned from the mundane -- answering dozens of letter from constituents and responding to inquiries and complaints from elected officials -- to the glamorous -- working as part of a small, close-knit team to advise the governor and his top aides in the immediate aftermath of the London subway bombings. Other responsibilities included: drafting legislative proposals and executive proclamations; developing nascent homeland-security planning documents, organizing coordination meetings to encourage cooperation between the public and private sectors, etc.

All in all, it was a terrific experience. I became familiar with the inner workings of the administration and learned a great deal about integrity in public service.  And, with any luck, my time at the Governor's Office will yield some exciting postgraduate career opportunities.
