Internship: PA Breast Cancer Coalition
Assistant to the Executive Director and Public Relations and Community Outreach Intern

I used my ETW funds to intern for ten weeks with the PA Breast Cancer Coalition, based in Ephrata, PA.  The PBCC is a state-wide grassroots organization that represents, supports, and serves breast cancer survivors and their families through education, legislative advocacy, and outreach initiatives.  Because the number of women served by the PBCC is so large and the staff is so small (seven!), I was always busy.  I’ve truly worked on a little bit of everything- website and database maintenance, survivor outreach programs, and volunteer leadership programs.  I attended fundraisers and meetings, and even did some typical intern duties like mailing, copying, and filing!

This internship is part of a larger project on breast cancer and women’s health activism.  It’s a follow-up to an internship with the National Breast Cancer Coalition in Washington D.C. from the fall of my junior year and a field work project with a Carlisle breast cancer support group in the spring of my sophomore year.
