What We Do

The Office of Print Communication oversees editorial content and style for external college publications, including Dickinson Magazine, in addition to working with offices and departments on publications and marketing materials. Print publications have a nine-week timeline for production: three weeks with the print-communication team, three weeks with the graphic designers, three weeks with the printer.

Dickinson Magazine Objectives
  • To forge stronger connections to the college among alumni, parents, students, faculty, staff, friends and donors
  • To reflect a diversity of viewpoints and experiences across generations of readers
  • To stimulate debate on academic and public issues
  • To remind readers of the distinguished history of one of America’s oldest colleges
  • To create copy that is lively, with a distinctive voice, and that brings to life people and events that are outside the mainstream.

Each issue of Dickinson Magazine is organized around a theme highlighting alumni and college initiatives that shore up Dickinson’s position as a progressive and prestigious American college. For instance, the spring ’06 issue on environmental sustainability profiled alumni who are working to push environmental issues to the forefront and detailed campus efforts to more responsibly use energy.

Class Correspondents Program
Class correspondents are volunteers who act as a communications liaisons between the college and their classmates. Correspondents are responsible for collecting class notes to be published in Dickinson Magazine. We will publish your name, mailing address and e-mail in the magazine so that your classmates can send you personal/professional updates.

In addition, the college relations office will send you or inform you of any updates we receive from your classmates or other publicity sources. If the information is received via newspaper or non-classmate source, we ask correspondents to call or e-mail the classmate for verification and publication approval. The staff of Dickinson Magazine will edit notes for style and consistency and may, in some cases, be in touch for clarification.

Dickinson Magazine is published four times per year. A publication schedule with deadlines will be provided to all correspondents.

For more information or to become a correspondent, contact dsonmag@dickinson.edu. If you currently are a correspondent and find yourself unable to fulfill the duties, please contact us so that other alumni have the opportunity to participate.
