The photo files kept in the College Relations office at 50 Mooreland are divided into three main groups. They are:
- Color Transparencies (Slides)
- B&W (black & white) and Color Negative Film/ Contact Sheets & Prints
- Digital files
Digital Photo Files
Digital image files are kept on a dedicated LIS server, and can only be accessed by members of the College Relations staff. These photos can be viewed in the office of the college photographer, and are organized in the same categories as the slides. CD's can easily be made of the files or folders, or photos can be e-mailed or put in individual or office drop folders, or in macdrop on the network. E-mailing large numbers of digital images is not practical due to the large file sizes.
PLEASE NOTE: While it is of course possible to download photos from the college website, please do not attempt to use these downloaded images in print media. The photos have been resized to 72 dpi (dots per inch) for web use, and will only produce poor quality print images, reflecting badly on the office producing the printed piece, and the college in general. High quality, 300 dpi, image files are available upon request.
Slides
Once processed, slides are labeled by category, date, and specific information, (building name, faculty name, etc). Slides taken within the last calendar year are kept in one drawer for quick access. After one year, they are moved to the main files. After eight years, the slides are sent to the college archives in the May Morris room.
There are also a number of 3-ring binders which have slides from Dickinson's global education sites in Bologna, Bremen, Cameroon, London, Malaga, Moscow, Norwich, and Toulouse. Also in binders are slides of the Waidner-Spahr Library, and Tome Scientific construction projects. Other binders contain panoramic camera, and medium & large format transparencies.
Color Prints
Color prints are kept together as they are returned from processing, they are not individually categorized. The envelopes are given a unique date and roll number code, and are labeled as to general contents. Each roll of film, B&W or color, is contact printed, and those contact (proof sheets) are kept in binders by academic year, going back to 1997. Pre Aug '97 film is essentially all B&W, and those contacts sheets are available for viewing in the college archives upon special request to the special collections staff. Negatives are NOT available for loan from either location. Prints from these negatives will be made upon request to the office of College Relations.
