Assistant Teacher: Suzanne Bowes, M.S. Ed.
Date of hire: January 1999

In the preschool classroom, there are defined learning centers that include dramatic play, science, library, computer, blocks, creative art, puzzles and circle areas. In the morning, the children have a circle time with songs, stories, finger plays, weather chart, helper choice, etc. The day is structured so that the children are learning through play experiences. The children are expected to use the toilet and wash their hands by themselves.

Each week, the learning-center activities incorporate a new theme. The children are exposed to pre-reading activities, and the teacher will build upon each individual child's emerging literacy skills. The children gain a better understanding of numbers and engage in problem-solving activities. Children also learn social skills such as cooperation, taking turns and conflict resolution. The children will learn at their own pace through play activities.
