Women's Studies

Introduction

Students participating in the Women's Studies Program will develop an understanding of the range of women's history and experience, including differences based on class, race, culture or ethnic origin, religion, age, and sexual orientation. This field draws from multiple perspectives--political, cultural, economic, historical, social, biological, anthropological, and geographical--to study gender and women's lives. As the following outline of courses required for the major indicates, the program is both interdisciplinary and methodologically diverse.

Students can begin exploring Women's Studies either by taking the Introduction to Women's Studies or by taking Women's Studies topics or elective courses. The following elective courses will count toward the Women's Studies Major and Minor (as listed online at www.dickinson.edu/departments/reg):

ENGL 101CF-01 African-American Women Writers
ENGL 349P-01 Contemporary Latino/a Literature
RUSSN 244-01 Women and Russian Literature

Students interested in either a major or a minor in Womens Studies should contact Prof. Julie Winterich (email: winterij@dickinson.edu or x1435) either before they arrive on campus or shortly thereafter.
