Medieval
and Early Modern Studies
Medieval
and Early Modern Studies covers a chronological period from late Antiquity
(c. 500) to the Enlightenment (c. 1750), and incorporates topics and critical
methods from the fields of English, Art and Art History, foreign languages,
History, Music, Philosophy, Classics, and Religion. The major is interdisciplinary
in structure, requiring students to think across disciplines.
Select courses to fulfill the distribution requirements that will apply towards the major. For example HIST 105 and 106 are required for the MEMS major. A&AH 101 and MUSIC 101 are prerequisites to courses required for the major. Consider completing your language requirement in a language that will permit you to study medieval and early modern literature: Latin, Greek, or a modern European language.
