Dickinson College Library

Librarians at Dickinson regard teaching as one of their fundamental responsibilities. They work closely with faculty in the research component of first-year seminars and in their role as liaisons to academic departments. In such contexts, they offer students the sophisticated tools they need to access and evaluate a range of current and historical information sources. Explaining the complexities of the Internet, outlining the rich and varied resources of the College's own Waidner-Spahr Library collection, and insisting on the importance of serious and sustained research, the librarians at Dickinson encourage students to develop a critical use of materials. They provide a variety of in-class instruction at all levels and in all disciplines of the College.

If students need help with a specific assignment, they are encouraged to ask at the reference desk or fill out the online form for an appointment for a research paper consultation, an introduction to electronic resources, or an instruction session for Catalyst, the library’s online catalog.  The form can be found on the library’s home page http://lis.dickinson.edu/Library/index.cfm by clicking on the “Research Guidance” category.
